I am so sorry to hear about this problem and have only heard of it in human babies. Their solution was a feeding tube surgically inserted in the stomach to get the baby to optimum health (as much as possible) before making decisions about surgery. To me, that would be my choice to do....
I know y'all are tired of hearing about my heart of my heart, Jesse, that I had to have euthanized at age 3 years. His problem was NOT even similar to this but I am bringing him up because of the decisions I made. I did CPR and revived him at age 6 weeks. BUT, he had aspirated stomach contents and ended up with lung scarring which resulted in heart problems. He would get pneumonia at least 3 times a winter and just never really bounced back 100%.
So, his second winter, the vet and I decided we would not continue putting him thru the treatments and pain and difficulties the next winter if we could help it. I even placed him in other homes (lordy did that hurt) in case the stress or allergies from all my others was the cause of his on-going problems. That was not it so after his 2nd hosp adm during his third winter, I had to make the hardest decision a loving, caring pet owner makes, BUT his misery had to be ended. My vet and I cry about his death to this day, but it was right. So, what I am saying is this....no matter what decision you make it will be out of the goodness of your heart and what is best for the BABY....
BTW, the stomach tube works okay and can be removed if the doggy's palate can be repaired later on.
Bless you and that youngun and give him smoochies from Rini and the kids...
