| Patella Surgery Help My rexi who is 2 years old was limping for 4 days so I took him to the vet and after x-rays was referred to an Orthopedic surgeon. The Surgeon at UC Davis told me today he has level 4 Patella Luxation and should have surgery immediately. Rexi walks normal and doesn't seem to be in pain. He can even run but has never jumped up in his life. He can go up and down stairs with no problem. Should I make him go through such invasive surgery? Any experiences? | A level four luxation would warrant surgery if the dog were mine. Dogs do not show pain until it worsens and by that time, the knee may be so damaged that surgery will not help and the treatment would be pain meds, anti inflammatory meds and really limited activity. Also, the older the dog the most possibility of complications from the surgery..JMO |

| level 4 Thank you. Level 4 does seem a bit extreme. Rexi runs and sure he hops every now and then. The clinician who diagnosed him at UC Davis hospital is a resident orthopedic surgeon. I think I need a second opinion before surgery. Does anyone else have any info on this??? |

| my little male had both knees done in jan. and it's april and he just started limping again so the vet said that one pin is too long on his right side so he's going back in for another surgery to correct this. it took about 2 weeks for the healing time. keeping him calm etc. he's not in pain but he does need the surgery to correct the long pin in his knee. so he leaves Friday to TX. for 2 weeks. i'm going to miss him so much. he is 1 year old and 3 lbs. |
