Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Suggestions...... My puppy jumped out of my daughters hand and seems to have hurt his back leg. He cried for a few minutes but then stopped. My vets office is closed. They told me to let him rest the leg and come in tomorrow morning early. I have palpated the leg and it doesn't seem to be broken. I think it might be a sprain. He has been confined in his pen now and is sleeping. He isn't putting pressure on the leg but has stopped crying. Should I try to find an emergency vet or just wait as my own vet has suggested?

| Oh! Im so sorry.. Sami did that to me the other day jumped right out of my arms and hit the dinning room chair (oak) he cried and stopped, I kept my eye on him ridden with guilt, but he was ok, I think maybe your baby might have bruised a muscle? let him rest and see how he walks and if he limps or drags it then I would say take him in, you will know.. please let us know how he is doing? |

| When Daisy broke her leg she did not put pressure on it at all, and did not cry unless she rolled over on it. When I called the vet he said to wait till next day to see him as he felt it was not an emergency. I took her in the next day at the first available appointment I think around noon. He did the exam, x-rays... and said to come back first thing the next morning for her to be put under for setting the leg. I would of went to another vet but there were no other vets less then a 6 hr drive away and he seemed to not be worried, but I sure was. She turned out just fine and healed very well. I hope your poor baby feels better and heals quickly. Hugs |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Thanks guys. My husband who is the king of broken things said that he thinks it's more of a muscle sprain than a break. He was saying that he would be crying a lot if it was broken and you would see a distortion in the leg. I will watch him for now. I was rubbing it for him and he seemed to be happy with that. I have him secluded in his xpen and if he looks worse later on in the night or cries I will take him to the emergency hospital. My vet said to hold off and bring him in to them early.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Thanks...that is just what hubby was saying. HE feels it's a deep tissue bruise or a sprain. For a sprain or a bruise I know they can't do anything other than for him to bedrest. Anyone have a pet with a sprain? What sort of treatment was given?

| Daisy would not walk on it just kept it up at all times, we could move and bend it without her crying. Other then the odd cry with a sudden movement like rolling on the bed she seemed normal. Still ran around like crazy..... with her leg up of course. |

| Hope your little one feels better soon. Sounds like a sprain to me. Let us all know how you go in the morning.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Leg Late last night he was going bonkers in his xpen. See when he wasn't hurt he loved his pen only if we would leave the door open for him. So with the door closed last night he was going bonkers and jumping up and down. I took himout several times to just sit with him. He tried walking and I noticed him putting pressure on the leg. NO crying whatsoever. He even decided to make a dash and chase the cat but we grabbed him. This morning he was crying to use the bathroom and didn't want to go on the wee wee pad so I took him out to potty. He walked fine on the leg. He does stop intermittently and pick it up and he is limping. NO crying. He wanted to take off running on me but I recongized the mischevious grin on his face and grabbed him. I am leaning on it being the sprain. I know we palpated it and saw no signs of a dislocation and he didn't cry at all with the palpation. UGGGG. I feel so sad for him. Thanks so much for the replies. They have been helping to ease my mind some.

| Seems like little doggies hurt their legs often - just running, playing, etc. I know for a fact that most of the time - these little guys will be just fine in a day or two. If my dogs are only limping - and not whinning or complaining - I always watch them for a day or two. Carol JEan |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Thank you all... I just wanted to update you on Lex. He has improved greatly. I spoke to the vet and the emergency vet earlier today before I went in to update them on him. He is doing way better and walking around. I have been confining him for long periods today. I have had to take him out at times because he gets bonkers and tries opening the xpen gate with his front paws. Anyhow from the improvements and the updates I gave both vets they told me to continue to rest him and watch his progress. They both seem to agree that it is a sprain and unless things seem to take a turn for the worse nothing can be done other than to let him rest. SO I will keep watching. Thank you all for your support and advice. It really was a godsend at my scary moment. Lex sends you all puppy kisses for helping his mamma not loose her mind last night.
