possible seizures happen while asleep Once last week and again last night my yorkie lilly has woke me up crying out, her body was stiff head back, and she urinated in the bed. I lasted only 20-30 seconds. She was only tired afterward not confused. She is otherwise healthy, eats well and is very active. Please tell me if anyone has experienced similar symptoms with there baby. I haven't taken her to the vet yet. I am trying to get more educated on her symtoms before i go shell out hundreds of dollars on tests not needed. Thank you in advance for your help.

This is my thought..I would rather spend the money the first time and then have a sense of what might be the problem next time..It could be nothing but it could be seizures from many causes. One, being LS...But that is not likely...IMO So, for your peace of mind, do what you think is best-that to me would be to call my vet and describe all the symptoms and go from there with his/her advice..Hope all is well soon!!

How old is Lilly? Our Jewel started having seizure in May 05'. From what you described it does sound like she is having seizures. There can be various reasons for the seizure. 1. Liver Shunt 2. Thyroid 3. Neurological 4. You may never find out. Definitely get her to a vet soon. Here is a website with a lot of information to help you. www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com Here are some things you can do to help her: 1. Put a bell on her to alert you 2. Keep a ice pack or a zip lock bag of ice. Put it on her lower back during and after her episode. 3. Stay calm (you). 4. Move her to a safe place 5. Keep a log of her episodes. Time, duration, what she was doing before and how she acts after. 6. Video tape it if possible (I've never been able to because we are always more concerned with her). You may also consider not letting her sleep on the bed. She may fall during an attack and hurt herself. Supposededly, they don't feel any pain even if she is yelping. I'm not sure of this. Jewel has done it a few times. Take her to a vet ASAP if her seizure lasts more than a minute or if she has more then 3 seizures in a 24 hour period. I don't mean to scare you but better to be prepared. Please let us know how she does and what your doctor tells you. I hope it's not serious.

My friend has a lab pup that had a couple of seizures. She took it to the vet and it was put on a medication that kept it from having seizures. Well - she ran out of medication and couldn't go back to the vet ($$$) - and her dog began having seizures again. She phoned around and found another vet that was less expensive and took her dog in. She was thrilled because she said the vet visit, lab work, and the medication were only $100. I'm sure that vet costs and medications can also vary depending on what is causing the seizures. But, if they continue or worsen, you really have no choice. Good luck - Carol Jean

It sounds like seizures. They can run in lines. If you did not breed her and the vet confirms what ever the cause may be you must inform the breeder so she doesn't repeat this breeding or one simular to it. Also contact the breeder she might know if she has had the problem and what you can do for it. But let's hope she has worked to clear it out of the line.
