| Red sore on hind leg Anyone have any ideas of what this may be? Can I clean the area with something? I noticed red spot on Deuce's back leg this afternoon. He must have been licking at it because his hair was wet and matted. I cut away some hair to see it better. No pus but about the size of a nickel. I don't know what that black is. At first I thought it was a stinger but it isn't sticking out. I cleaned the area with water. Not sure what it is. I have a soft shame collar I will put on him if he continues to lick. We'll certainly go to the vet tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

| I think the only thing you can do is maybe rinse with saline....or if you have chlorhexadine. But, definitely get him to the vet in am. It could be one of these ( I don't really think so, but worth thinking about)..... but could also be so many things. Definitely looks "angry" and might be a cellulitis secondary to a bite or something. https://www.merckvetmanual.com/integ...-dogs-and-cats

| There are lots of possibilities, but it looks like it could be a spider bite. Pending your trip to the vet, it wouldn’t hurt to google images of dogs with spider bites for comparison. If you think it might be a spider bite, a cold compress can reduce the swelling, and a paste of baking soda & water might help the irritation. |

| While it is possible, I don't think this is a spider bite. Most of the time a spider will only bite when disturbed and I would think it would be the nose or a paw. I am on a Facebook group that has helped me understand spiders and their behavior a bit more. I still am creeped out by them, but I am trying to get past it a bit because they are beneficial. https://www.facebook.com/groups/antmans.hill Of course it can't hurt to put a compress on it.

| Vet was not sure of the cause of the initial wound but felt that Deuce made a secondary infection out of it. She cleaned it and prescribed meds to ease the itching and disinfect the area. The cone I put on him also aided in healing. It's looking much better now. No redness and healing nicely.
