| What to do about spaying... Hello all. I’m in need of of some opinions... My Yorkie will be 10 years old this month and in the past couple months she’s developed a tumour in her mammary gland. She’a not spayed so my vet suggested that I spay her and that she’ll also remove the tumour for me. My dog is 2.5lbs so that on top of her age has me VERY worried. Do you think I should get a second opinion on spaying her? Or just have the vet remove the bump and not spay her? The vet said if I don’t she’ll just keep getting more. So far she hasn’t but the one she does have has gotten bigger.... I’m a little at a loss on what to do.... thanks. |

| By not spaying her she becomes at more risk to have pyometra which could kill her or require emergency spay if caught in time. She will continue to get mammary tumors and if cancerous they could spread. You would definitely want to do pre surgery blood work if you get surgery.

| One of my now passed girls was not spayed, she wasn't a wee lil one. At age 10 years old we caught the pyometra right away, she underwent emergency spay, she lived another 6 months then went to Rainbow bridge, I guess it wasn't as early as we thought. My first un-spayed girl had passed away from pyometra 6 months earlier, hers was not caught early, she had emergency spay but passed 9 days after the surgery. From my own personal experience I advise to please spay your baby when the tumor is removed.
