Anaphylactic shock Just yesterday i had to rush my Tink to the emergency vet. It was the scariest thing. She was doing just fine, then all of the sudden she started throwing up and then became extremely lethargic. I was holding her and calling her name. She was breathing and her eyes were open but she wasn’t responding to me. The vet ran some blood tests and found that her blood pressure was low, her temperature was low and she was dehydrated. Also, her gums were pale. He said that these symptoms are common in anaphylactic shock. She was at the vet for a couple of hours and then i was able to bring her home. I’m still giving her Benadryl every 8 hours and making sure she stays hydrated. My worry is that i have no idea what she’s allergic too. I have no idea if it was something she got into or if it was something i gave her. I do give her table food sometimes but i am careful to be sure it’s nothing that is harmful to her. Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone know of any not so common allergens that i should be aware of?

Hi that must have been absolutely terrifying, I'm glad that she is home with you and hopefully improving, most dogs that have a reaction to food that bad have usually eaten it within the last 24 hour's, you need to sit down and write everything down that she was given, then you need to retrace your day and think where you took her and do it again maybe on your own and see if you think she could have eaten something on the journey, if you hadn't taken her out it could possibly have been table food, even chicken, one of my dogs years ago was completely allergic to chicken and we didn't know.at first until the toxicity built up, if you do the food diary it may point to something that could be the cause, make sure she keeps well hydrated and lots of mummy cuddles

I'll ask a moderator to move this thread to the Sick and Emergencies section of the forum. I didn't even know this was in the Yorkie videos section...

| This is SO weird....something very similar happened recently to my Hannah. We were outside and came back in....I walked into another room and when I went back to the room she was in, she was on the floor and unresponsive. She was limp! She was breathing but really out of it...I rushed her to the vet and by the time I got there her gums were super pale and she was just like yours ....they did blood work and her blood sugar was slightly elevated. He said they see elevated blood sugar sometimes in seizures. She did seem to be postictal....this was about a month ago and she has been fine ever since. I have NO idea what it was.... reaction to something outside...or a seizure.

A few years ago, we had something similar happen. My kids took Shimmr out for a walk. They came in telling me something was wrong. She was throwing up and refused to walk. I told them not to worry. She’d probably eaten too much grass & she was being stubborn. Then they brought her to me. I thought she was already dead: limp, unresponsive, and we weren’t sure she was breathing, My darling husband started mouth to mouth(nose) and rubbing her chest. After a bit, she came to. We rushed her to the emergency vet (a 45 minute drive!) it’s been too long to remember specifics, but she was in the oxygen box overnight & given an IV. They kept her 2-3 days! When we took her luke I am your father I asked what happened, all they could tell me was that it looked like anaphylactic shock. We never figured out what caused it. Was it a bee sting? Wasp? Rubber (we found broken balloons in the area) The good news is that it’s never happened again. She is healthy & happy. I hope things turn out well with your baby. Don’t make yourself too crazy trying to figure out what it was. (Even though I know you will, I did.)
