| Frequent accidents but usually trained Hi, Our two year old had an accident yesterday. Very unusual, but no big deal. Today she had three more. No blood is visible, nor is the urine gelatinous. Totally unusual for her to go inside. She hasn't had an accident before these for more than a year. She has been sleeping more than usual for a few days I guess, but she is eating and drinking as usual. Of course, our vets are gone for the weekend. I took her temperature but hers is normal. Obviously, I'll call first thing Monday, and I am sure they will want a urine sample. How does one obtain one from a moving target? She squats and dashes in seconds. Thanks for any ideas. Gew |

| I definitely think its a UTI. I have only had to catch a sample from my older girl who is pretty chill and very used to it. I have a little plastic tray that something we bought came in and I cleaned it. I have someone else hold her leash and stay ready and get it that way. With my youngest the tech had to do it because she was to fast. Sometimes the techs have little tricks they try.

| Thanks. We had no trouble getting samples from the two boys, but she is a “scooter.” It’s funny because our Icy, a female collie, did the same thing. I’m glad to know a tech may be able to. BTW she just came in from outside where she went and coming in the door urinated on the mat without even squatting. So strange. Thanks for responding. Gew |

| If something happens to one of my dogs, it will always be after hours or on a weekend. To think back, it was the same with my children. |

If you are having trouble getting a urine samlpe, try turning a disposable potty pad plastic side up or simply lay down a piece of plastic wrap so if she pees and scoots hopefully you will still be able to salvage enough for testing. | |

| I always let the techs at my vet collect urine samples...for my males and females. They are pros...LOL I think it is good anyway as that makes for a very fresh sample! I hope it is just a simple UTI. And YES, always on nights, weekends and Holidays.

| I know I'd never be successful at getting a urine sample from Winston, I'll leave that to the professionals. The nights, weekends and holidays thing really worries me...the closest ER or 24 hour a day vet is nearly an hour away from home. And as always my imagination gets the best of me...my mind tends to work overtime. Would pushing fluids help in case it is a UTI? Hoping for the best...

| Thanks for making me feel a little less incompetent. They make it sound so simple, but getting a sample is not. It is like when taking my collie who had an arthrodesis two weeks ago and will be in a cast 12 weeks, and they say withhold food and water should they need to sedate. The orthopedic specialist is an hour away, the other four have to eat, the appointment is often not too early, and my poor boy starves, but mostly craves water. Vets make these things seem simple, but...... |

| She went to the vet who took a sample. There was no sign of infection. Strangely, she has had no accidents or frequent urination. Since. Vet suggested a reaction to a new food, but as far as I know, nothing new had been added to her diet. However, she is a grazer and while she iso ever out alone, she might have gotten some “salad” when we weren’t,t watching. Thanks so much for caring. Gew |

| The vet thought so too. She never has an accident, so I was sure it was an iud. However, vet found nothing and she has had no problem since. She did seem a little off maybe quieter so....... Again I appreciate your concern. We have had a run since adopting Spenser in December followed a week later by bladder surgery. Then adopting Max in March with 12 teeth needing extraction and yelping in pain from luxating patella, a 3 and a 4 which required surgery about two weeks after we got him. Audrey has been fine through it all. Of course , she is two and the boys are 8 and 10 +- Now our collie’s being t-boned by a deer requiring a arthrodesis of his front leg which will keep him in a cast 12 weeks. Jamison can’t do his therapy work till cleared. He gets his vest every few days to remind me that he wants Togo. Maybe he can return in early spring. Meanwhile I take Paige, our cancer spotter, and am getting Audrey ready for testing. She has basic commands down, but teaching her to only lick, kiss, on command has been a challenge. |
