From here, it has to just get better. Congrats! |
Great news!!! You have done such a good job and your little one is so strong and such a fighter! I have been on the edge of my seat reading all of this. Please keep us posted and we are all hoping for the best. |
Sunday | 9:40 PM It's been a couple of days since my last update. I apologize for that, but I'm sure you'll all forgive me when you hear why. Turns out, with my Bimmer back to almost 100%, I haven't had any time to do anything but play with him. :) He's still not eating his usual payload, but he's averaging one REALLY big meal a day and several smaller snack sessions throughout the day. Last night his sugar went low again and he got wobbly. No big deal, I'm an old pro at that one now. ;) He was back to normal a few minutes later. As each day passes, he sleeps less than the day before. Today he's been awake half the day just watching tv with me. He's still on the mend and heavily drugged with the antibiotics, but he's ALMOST back to his old self. If he'd sleep an hour or two less and eat two or three meals more, I'd say we're fully healed. We'll get there but, rest assured, the little man is doing VERY well for himself. Thanks for everyone's concern... my wife thinks you're all angels. |
We are so happy to hear the great news about Bimmer :) :) he is so lucky to have you and Mrs. with all the wonderful care from the both of you, he couldn't help but get better and with all the prayers from everyone at YT we know he will be all well real soon. Well, now it looks like were moving into the "constipation" realm on our venture through all of the Yorkie ailments. For those not paying attention, we've been through hypoglycimia, not eating, cocciddia, ear infection, diahreea, plus a few other fun times. Now, we have Bimmer with a bloated belly sitting in the "poo position" with no results. After searching the forum, is canned pumpkin, mineral oil, etc. still the preferred method of dealing with this? He doesn't look to be in pain, but he's walking funny and he isn't interested in any food. I gave him a small amount of pepto and will see how he's doing when I go home in an hour or so. When will it ever end!?!? ;) |
Just a thought.....doesn't pepto stop one from going to the bathroom? Maybe your little one has had too much pepto...I am thinking back to the times I have taken Pepto and wonder if that might be the case? I don't know though....it was just a thought. I have heard that canned pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie kind) does wonders with stomache and bowel promblems...never tried, but maybe someone else will get on here and post. I think you have been soooo wonderful and have done a great job! It will get better! |
6:52 PM | Tuesday Night I don't know what to think anymore. I just gave him a dab of mineral oil to alieve his bloated belly, but now he's moving his head around like Stevie Wonder and he loses his balance occasionally and falls on his side. He seems to be hungry right now, but I don't know if I should feed him with his stomach as bloated as it is. I just don't know what to do. God bless the little guy because he's a fighter, but I don't know how much more of this he can take. I'll be behind him forever, but at some point his little body has to get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Any ideas what this head roll like Stevie Wonder is? I hope its not something mental... |
Just did some digging on Google and came across this link... http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=20889 Could it be low blood sugar? I know for certain that his sugar is low pretty much all the time when he won't eat. I doubt its epilepsy as I've never seen him have a seizure. What concerns me is that he went from a normal dog to a sick dog that shakes his head to a constipated dog with a Stevie Wonder head roll... all in the course of two weeks. I'm stumped. It just seems like he gets over one thing and something else comes along and attacks him. |
I was gonna say it sounds like it could be hypoglycemia. Do you have any nutrical. If so give him a dab of it. Poor little guy he sure is a fighter though. I think it could be alot worse with everything he has went through. |
Change vets? Unless your regular vet is very experienced in tiny breeds, I would start calling and asking around for one that is very familiar with yorkies. I feel for you. I wish I knew what to do. And the pepto can be constipating. he should only have it if he has upset stomach. |
I don't think the vet is the problem. Like I said, this isn't the same illness that won't go away. It's been four seperate symptoms wholly unrelated to each other. At the moment, Bimmer is sitting in mom's lap wide awake which is something he didn't do at all last week. He slept the ENTIRE week. This week, he's wide awake he just won't eat. Tonight I ran to the store to grab some more Pedialyte and figured I'd try the boiled hamburger meat and sea salt meal. To my surprise he ate up a large portion similar in size to his normal sitting of food. So now he has a full belly, though I don't know how much sugar is in salted beef. Will his sugar drop again or can his body make enough glucose from that meal? Also, after getting his sugar level back up, the Stevie Wonder shake subsided for the most part, so it very well may be a result of low sugar. On the low sugar front, Bimmer hasn't been eating this week so he's had a fair bit of Nutrical to sustain him. I feel like it's losing its effectiveness and his body is adapting to a high sugar diet which means I HAVE to get him eating again and off the Nutrical. Hopefully the hamburger meat is a step in the right direction, I just don't know anymore. I'll call the vet in the morning, but until then we'll hold down the fort. I'd be VERY concerned if he was lethargic, but he's really not at all. I just had him on the floor walking around to break up the poo in his colon and sure he's a little slower and wobblier than normal, but other than that he's nowhere near as bad as last week. I'll keep you posted... |
9:48PM | Tuesday Night Whoever figured out the boiled hamburger meal needs to come see me next time you're in Kentucky and I'll buy you a meal of your own. Man oh man! Sometime in between the second and third helpings of hamburger, Bimmer FINALLY went poo. Pardon the following description, but the first part he struggled to get out and was dark greenish in color. This was followed by quite a bit of the normal pinkish firm stool. With all the different foods he's eaten over the last week, I don't know what to make of that but I know he looks like he's feeling better and that makes me feel better. He still does the "Stevie Wonder" occasionally, which has me concerned. Nonetheless, this is the first night in many a roller coaster night that I can go to bed tonight knowing Bimmer isn't starving himself. He ate quite a bit of hamburger in the last two hours. I know it isn't the most nutritous meal, but at this point I just need the little man to fill his belly. You will all be proud to know that I made a trip to Kroger's to pick up some Gerber carrot puree and have fed him that via a syringe to supplement the meat-only diet of tonight. How am I doing? Do I have all the bases covered? I'm seriously considering pulling his antibiotic until I talk to the vet. I've seen no improvement in him on the antibiotics. His eyes were no longer gooey when he went on the eye meds. His head shaking hasn't stopped since he went on the ear meds. Finally, his appetite went into the tank when he went back on the Clavamox. I'm also suspending the vitamin supplements until I speak with the vet. Bimmer hasn't just "been a dog" for two weeks now. I'm curious to see how he responds to having four less syringes in his mouth countless times a day. Maybe this is reckless, but I don't think things can get worse in a 12 hour period. Speak up ladies... I need some affirmation here. What am I forgetting? |
Sorry you have had such a rough time of it Bimmer, Dad and Mom you are doing a fantastic job with your little fella. Hope he is back to normal real soon. We went through a week of Baby not wanting to eat :( finally since she is fond of the little bits of cheddar cheese, I placed a piece into a sandwich bag in the frig along with her dry puppy food and it absorbed the smell of the cheese and yippee she is eating good now, and without the cheese left in there. We sure are looking forward to when you can relax and just enjoy Bimmer, he is so cute. look forward to seeing more pictures of him. |
