OK, I guess I should have looked, as I see you are in Kentucky. LOL Well, I hope he is getting better. Just hope he is not getting dehydrated. Naw, one can never be too caring. I know this is scary, so hang in there. I sure hope he is better soon. I very helpless feeling, I am sure. We are all thinking of you. |
I think having "gooy eyes" would slow my dogs down a bit. For sure, most animals with this problem would need some sort of eye drops. I had a kitten with an eye infection that did the same thing. The vet gave me some drops that cleared it up in just a day or two. Carol Jean |
Sounds like you are doing everything you can for Bimmer and being up with him and doing all that you are is helping him to be more comfortable till you can get him into the vet. You are a good Daddy, I think Jack would be doing the same. Please let us know what the vet says. Hope it clears up real soon. |
Just got back from the vet. They did a parvo test for some reason (probably to get some $$$ out of me) and it was negative. They've put him on Clavamox twice a day for a week and told us to take him to our regular vet if he doesn't start eating in the next 24 hours. I've been feeding him through a syringe for the time being. He's also had his Albon extended and they gave me some "Natural Tears" creme to put in his eyes. All in all, he seems to have improved a small bit already. He's no longer in a constant slumber and his eyes aren't gooey thanks to the creme. We still have a LONG way to go, but there's at least a glimmer of improvement and that makes me feel better. Now I just have to get him to eat and I'm hoping he will be feeling better later this evening and regain his appetite. |

Good for you going to the vet and I hope you see some improvement really fast - I bet you will ! |
Glad to hear that you got him into the vet. I just found out that my girlfriend's daughter had to take her dog to the vet yesterday AM to be put down. It had parvo, and the vet said it is rampant in my area right now. Better safe than sorry, so I am glad you got the test. Bimmer sounds like he is slowly making progress, so hang in there. This is good news. |
Oh Kate... I'm so sorry to hear that. :( When they said they wanted to run a parvo test I almost passed out. It was a LOOOOOOOOOONG ten minutes of waiting. Update on my Bimmer: He's had his antibiotic for the night and a fresh application of Natural Tears. I tried AGAIN to feed him and he wants no part of it. I had almost resigned myself to the fact that he doesn't have much longer to live. I can only do so much, but he has to do his part and eat. Exasperated, I came back to this forum and did some searching for possible solutions. I kept running across this Cesar brand of dog food and decided "what the heck". I'm desperate now, so off to Kroger's where I buy one of each kind they have figuring I'll go through them all if I have to just to find something, ANYTHING that he likes. I'm happy to report that he went wild for the first tin I opened, "Top Sirloin". Just like his daddy, he's a "steak guy"! He ate what he'd normally eat in two sittings and is now in mommie's lap with the fattest belly he's had in days. I know it's not the best food, but right now I need him to focus on eating... nothing else. I'll feed him again every hour until bedtime and then I'll leave some in his cage for him overnight. With a little luck, tommorrow may be a brighter day. P.S. This forum is an invaluable resource for me. Without it, he'd still be sitting in there refusing to eat and waiting to die. With everyone's help here, I can give him the best possible chance at surviving. Cheers to each of you! |
I am so glad to hear you have got him eating. Lil Caesars is like a miracle food when you have a picky eater. My dogs eat it every morning. |
This is such great news. Keep up the good work. Lil Caesars seems to be very popular. Also, will he eat cheerios as a treat? Just a thought. I am sure tomorrow will be a better day, and he seems to have really made progress. Please keep us posted, and try to get some rest. Kate |
Well, he was MUCH more responsive this morning when I went to wake him. Unfortunately, he wasn't interested in his Cesar's food. :( I'm at work now but will check on him in a couple of hours. We're still diggin'..... :) |

Howdy neighbor! Unfortunately, he still won\'t eat. I called my normal vet and they reccomended taking him off the Clavamox as it might be upsetting his stomach. They also suggest giving him .25 CC of Pepto Bismol to coat his stomach. They think he\'ll come around later tonight when his stomach settles. Lord I hope so... |
Another thing you can try is to fix him some chicken and rice. Its easy on thier stomachs when they are upset. Gosh I hope you can get this baby to start eating consistently again. |
Another thing you can try are the Gerber baby food sticks. Just cut them up into pieces for him. I am just trying to give you everything I tried when my little one wouldnt eat. I would try the chicken and rice first though. |
