They know much more about CCL tears than regular vets. Please do this sooner rather than later. Again, the VOSM clinic I linked to above is top notch, but if you find someone closer to you than that, that's fine, but please have your dog seen by a specialist.

It definitely is. I agree with Phil, I would give up my vacation and the next 10 if need be to save one of my pups from an unstable knee and the end results of that.

My almost 13 male yorkie has an ALC tear. He has had LP most of his life but now as he ages he is very stiff. He is also a diabetic for the last year. What is your opinion on surgery for my old guy ? I love him so much I will do anything for him.

That's a tough call. I would go to an ortho specialist and get an opinion. With his health issues, anesthesia could be difficult.

Unfortunately I live in area without a specialist though my regular vet has done the surgery before. He is not an active dog . I would just like to leave him and see if it heals. That being said I would go through it if need be and I know he would heal well.

The arthritis that comes from an unrepaired torn CCL on a dog can be severe.
