Ibd and allergies Hi everyone,I need your advice please,I have yorkie girl who has Ibd also allergies.I noticed that her hair is thinning especially on her neck and her back, also hair around her bottom lip is really black like she is changing colour for some reason. Her hair now is really dull and brittle even I use Malaseb shampoo and Viacutan plus oil in her food,no luck😢.Does anyone know how I can help her?she doesn't take any medication for her allergies,we changed her food to Royal canin sensitivity control one week ago.thank you. Ps.:she was on Marbocyl antibiotics before, now she is on Ronaxan and amylase(Lypex) for her Ibd.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How old is she...? Anytime you see actually hair loss, you should consider ruling out any thyroid issue and possibly Cushings if there are other symptoms present. What makes you think there are allergies...what kind...? There are *great* meds for allergies for dogs these days, and they can be a miracle. Is she itching? Chewing/licking her paws...? Skin infections...?

Thank you for your reply, she is 20 months old,she is been tested for Cushings and nothing showed she has that.we done allergy test and that showed lots of things she is allergic to:beef, oatmeal, peas, brewers yeast, corn, rice, eggs, tomato, kelp, some grass, weeds, trees, fungi, storage mite, kapok, orris root, sisal, black ant, house fly...she doesn't itch that much, depending on the day to day.I changed three vets since she became ill at 8-9 months(back in April last year),I have feeling that they(vets)are just for money and I have a feeling that they will kill my little girl😭.Im trying my best to help her, money is not a problem at all, what ever vet suggested that will help I agreed. It seems that he is trying to make one problem better but another problem shows up.Back to the problem:my vet sent samples(blood, skin and hair to American company is called Spectrum group,I don't know why he send that to America from Uk?no backteria or infection is present. My girl simptoms are gurgling tommy, yellow bile(sometimes in the morning)and now this😭,she is low in amalyse and potassium .Im confused and don't know what to do?

1. feed grain free and all-poultry-free (instead, feed a novel protein like bison, venison, fish, rabbit, etc) 2. try pepcid 5-10mg twice per day (at each meal) 3. if allergies are affecting quality of life, then get her on either Apoquel or Atopica once the stomach is more settled Have you seen an actual Vet Internist yet...? If not, I'd have that sort of specialist manage the care *until* you get her to a better place. After that, have a trusted generalist vet who is convenient to you take over care.

Thank you so much again,I wanted to go and see internist but my vet said that there is no need for it?im feeding her with Royal Canin sensitivity control kibble mixed with Hills Z/D wet food.I just can't understand how vet after internal biopsy didn't find what's wrong with her digestive problem and why he doesn't want to give her anything for her allergies. He mentioned if she still after some time has simptoms of allergy he will give her some injections.which food you are suggesting?im going to talk with him again this week and I will mention Pepcid for sure.I was thinking as her hair is so thin, brittle, dull and oily should I shave her?I was reading about coconut oil to apply it on her skin, will that help?what do you think?

I'm sorry you going through that problem with your little one,it's so frustrating when they can't talk and we don't know how to help😭.I feel so stressed because of health of my girl and somehow I can't relax.I will keep your girl in my prayers and I wish you find answers through those tests. If you don't mind what kind of tests she will have to go through?did she had any tests before?if she did, which one?my girl had exploratory surgery(vet thought she swallowed something),barium meal,X-rays and ultrasounds so many times, colposcopy and colonoscopy and at the end she had full internal biopsy and all that didn't showed primary cause of her problem,so frustrating😢😢😢,not to mention she has blood test every two weeks which cost me £280 every time

Read this thread for more about allergies. In a nutshell, if they're year-round allergies, then you want to treat w/ either Apoquel or Atopica. Also, I wouldn't necessarily be talked into allergy skin testing, followed by desensitization injections either...they often do not work and are about $400 just for testing. No, I wouldn't shave her - it won't help anything at all. You could add some fish oil, but I don't know if that's okay w/ her tummy. I would most def try the Pepcid asap as that's so simple/easy to try and is non-prescription. Did she ever have giardia as a puppy or anything odd like that? Something intestinal...? What is the main protein source and carb source in the current foods you're giving...?

Thank you both for replying and your great help, I was feeding her with a raw diet and she came up with campylobacter which we cured with medication. She's now on Royal Canin Sensitivity Control dry food (protein source is Duck and carb source is Tapioca) Also I feed her with Hills Z/D wet food (protein is hydrolysed chicken liver and carb is cornstarch) I want to ask you both she's 2kg is 5-10mg of pepcid a safe dose for her? Thank you

Yes, that dose is the normal/safe dose.

YES!!! This right here. Ann always has such fantastic information! I'm putting in my reply to bolster what she said. Chewie does NOT do well with duck OR turkey- we found that out. We also found out beef-what we had been feeding her- was a no go, too. She does well with chicken, bison, lamb, and we are trying salmon (fromms) this week. But, she was the oddball with that, is what I'm saying. Usually beef is better, chicken not. Just not for her, which was surprising.
