| Colon Issues Again - Sorry this is long Deuce is 7 years old. I thought we had this colon problem under control for the past several years. Early on we had a huge problem with Deuce and bouts of Diaherrea. After calming down the colon and figuring out that it was his food we switched to what the vet recommended. We fed him Hill's ID wet food with Royal Canine Yorkshire Terrier kibble for years. His colon was happy. Then Occasionally He would throw up after eating in the AM and we thought It was the result of gulping and not chewing the kibble since it only happened in the morning. So we gradually switched to Royal Canin Gastrointestinal kibble with the Hills Wet food and he seemed to do better and since the kibble was larger he did spend more time crunching it. He's been eating this for at least 6 months. We had some diarrhea show up the day after Thanksgiving. It's been on and off since then with an intermittent good day but with a soft formed stool. He had a few skinny poop accidents in the house when we were not home so I know he still was having a problem. I can hear his tummy gurgling and he has gas. Yesterday I took a stool sample to the vet and it did not have parasites or anything else present. He had a good day with only one soft poop so I thought we were improving. Today he did not want to eat breakfast but I had to leave him since I had a DR. Appt. He had a couple small poop drops on the carpet and was upset about it. Went outside peed and wanted to play. When I brought him back in so I could clean up the run he wanted me to hold him. Then all of a sudden I guess he passed gas and liquid squirted from his rectum. When I cleaned that up I noticed some streaks of blood. Called the vet for an appt. tomorrow AM. Certainly we need to calm down his colon. In the past we used Metonidazole - is that still the drug of choice? But I don't know what to do about the food!!!!. The Hills can says its an improved formula - When did that happen??? Could that be the culprit? He's been into this case for about 8 cans already. Would it take that long to cause a reaction? And I've been noticing that he has more discharge from his eyes the past few months. Not sure if its the RC Gastrointestinal or the Hills? What the heck should I feed him to calm this down. And certainly to change his diet will disrupt his colon even more. Please comment if you have some thoughts here.

| Update Went to the Vet this morning to have him checked out. His gums look good, no tummy sensitivity, hearts fine, he's not dehydrated. He did lose 6 oz though. So now he's 5.1oz. With a little guy That concerns me. We'll just keep him on his bland diet of Hills and Royal Canin gastro kibble. Giving him Metronidazole 2x per day and 1 pkg Fortiflora per day. This should calm down the colon. If the problem continues she said to bring him back for bloodworm. Today so far he's been ok with no episodes of Diarrhea, gas or discomfort. He ate his breakfast today too. So far so good.

| I'm glad you brought him into the vet. I hope you are on the right track and his tummy is better soon! So scary when they aren't well. Hoping Deuce is feeling better as the day goes on.

| I'm sorry Deuce hasn't been feeling well. Two of my Yorkies in the past had stomach issues, one with colitis, and the other with irritable bowel. They both were under the care of my vet, and their tummies settled down after a dosage of Centrine. They were sometimes given Metronidazole, as well, if they had any type of stomach infection. Ashley, who lived to a month shy of seventeen, was on Reglan for the last year of her life. She was the one with irritable bowel. She had a collapsing trachea, which wasn't very severe, but it caused her to take in too much air into her belly. She always had gas in her belly. Baby Gas-x helped her a little bit I'm still quick to take Katie to the vet if she has any symptoms that don't go away right away. On two occasions she was on Metronidazole, but that was a few years ago. My dear friend's vet prescribed cut Tylan Powder for one of her dogs. She purchased it there. Whenever any of her Yorkies has an upset stomach, she gives them 1/2 teaspoon of cut Tylan Powder. On a subsequent visit she asked her veterinarian what it meant by it being cut. He told her she should buy Tylan Powder and put 9 parts unflavored Metamucil and one part Tylan to make her own. He told her it would last a lifetime for all of her dogs. Whenever Katie has an upset stomach, usually one dose of Tylan, and it does the trick. Sometimes it takes two doses, but it always works. If she had liquid diarrhea multiple times, I would go to the vet immediately, but for a tummy upset because she ate something a little different, this works beautifully. I also give Katie an excellent Probiotic daily, and that works great, too. I use Nature's Farmacy Probiotic Max. I also wonder if Deuce had any stress because of Thanksgiving that could have contributed to hiss upset stomach. I hope he gets well soon.

| Thanks for the other ideas about keeping the colon under control. It's good to know there are other options. I knew there were others out there with similar problems. I will keep you posted on our progress.

| This may sound off the wall to you... but had it not happened to me I wouldn't suggest it. I would have bile acid testing done. My Teddy Bear had a liver shunt that went undiagnosed until he was an adult. I do blood work on all of my pups at least yearly and more often if they are ill....Teddy never had ANY alterations in his blood work, so if anyone tells you that they show up in the liver enzymes first, that simply isn't always true. There were two symptoms that were missed...he took some time to recover from anesthesia and pain meds after ortho surgery .. and he had occasional vomiting over the years. Honestly, this may not be what is going on but it is a cheap test and good to rule out a shunt. The other thing that comes to mind is IBD... Teddy does have IBD as well but many shunt pups do. He is on Hill's Ultra ZD IBD is pretty common in yorkies...I talk with yorkie owners often whose pups have IBD. Teddy's shunt surgery was done in 2013. Here is the thread about that: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ver-shunt.html Hope you get an answer to this....you might want to consider seeing an internal med specialist.

| Thanks LadyJane for your comments. I will keep your suggestions in mind if this situation continues. Right now he's looking good. I did two administrations of the Metronidazole and fortiflora yesterday and this morning he had a normal looking poop. Either what was going on had taken it's course or the drugs have turned the problem around. I do remember reading about TeddyBear's problem and it was in the back of my mind. Thanks for bringing it forward in case we must dig deeper on this problem. Mary and Deuce
