Colon Issues Again - Sorry this is long Deuce is 7 years old. I thought we had this colon problem under control for the past several years. Early on we had a huge problem with Deuce and bouts of Diaherrea. After calming down the colon and figuring out that it was his food we switched to what the vet recommended. We fed him Hill's ID wet food with Royal Canine Yorkshire Terrier kibble for years. His colon was happy. Then Occasionally He would throw up after eating in the AM and we thought It was the result of gulping and not chewing the kibble since it only happened in the morning. So we gradually switched to Royal Canin Gastrointestinal kibble with the Hills Wet food and he seemed to do better and since the kibble was larger he did spend more time crunching it. He's been eating this for at least 6 months. We had some diarrhea show up the day after Thanksgiving. It's been on and off since then with an intermittent good day but with a soft formed stool. He had a few skinny poop accidents in the house when we were not home so I know he still was having a problem. I can hear his tummy gurgling and he has gas. Yesterday I took a stool sample to the vet and it did not have parasites or anything else present. He had a good day with only one soft poop so I thought we were improving. Today he did not want to eat breakfast but I had to leave him since I had a DR. Appt. He had a couple small poop drops on the carpet and was upset about it. Went outside peed and wanted to play. When I brought him back in so I could clean up the run he wanted me to hold him. Then all of a sudden I guess he passed gas and liquid squirted from his rectum. When I cleaned that up I noticed some streaks of blood. Called the vet for an appt. tomorrow AM. Certainly we need to calm down his colon. In the past we used Metonidazole - is that still the drug of choice? But I don't know what to do about the food!!!!. The Hills can says its an improved formula - When did that happen??? Could that be the culprit? He's been into this case for about 8 cans already. Would it take that long to cause a reaction? And I've been noticing that he has more discharge from his eyes the past few months. Not sure if its the RC Gastrointestinal or the Hills? What the heck should I feed him to calm this down. And certainly to change his diet will disrupt his colon even more. Please comment if you have some thoughts here.
