| Sick yorkie w confused Vets 9 mo old Lola (pictured w brother Moose)first started w eye ulcers. while being treated for them she started to stumble, as if her front legs didn't work anymore. top notch animal hosp suspected encephilitis after MRI and spinal tap. has been on prednisone 2x day since. shows improvement the takes a step back. the whites of her eyes are bloody and she seems to have a new scab/cut every day and bruising on her side. tested positive for Rocky Mountain spotted fever and is now on antibiotic in addition to prednisone and eye meds. both family vet and hospital are admittedly scratching their heads because any improvement is slight. she shakes constantly, tips over and cries one day and runs through the park like a gazelle the next (although it's been a week since she last did that). anyone have any experience w something similar? |

The symptoms, especially the eye symptoms and difficulty in walking, sound similar to what is described in this article. Hopefully your vets are on top of this. If you think they are not, you might want to find a specialist. | |

| Sounds like you have seen a specialist since there was a MRI and also a spinal done. I don't have any experience to share .. Hopefully someone else might. Please keep us posted. I do hope things are getting better ...

| Praying for your baby Lola. When did her problems start and when was she diagnosed? I have only known one other Yorkie with a different tick borne disease as serious as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. It took a month of antibiotics and rest to recover from. Please keep us updated.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Pray over your dog. I believe the Lord hears our cries for help. My Yorkie was ready to pass on. He wasn't eating had kidney problems. I decided to pray and my friend did too. Then I just let him eat the little wellness chicken petite casserole food my Jojo eats. That dog got better, he is still doing well. There is so much power in prayer. |

| she was diagnosed w encephalitis three weeks ago. tested positive for RMSF last Friday but they started her on antibiotics a day before the test results came back. she's got a follow up appt w neurologist and ophthalmologist Friday. just when I thought I saw some improvement yesterday...this morning she was constantly shaking (which is probably the most unnerving part) and staring w eyes wide open. following me w her eyes only not moving her head. for two hours. I woke up to find her that way. I don't know if I can wait until Friday. I'm tempted to take her to another highly rated animal hospital but they'll want to do another MRI, spinal tap, blood work, etc. she's only 4 lbs and I don't know how she'll fare. only positive note is that she has maintained a healthy appetite. but the constant shaking is killing me. |

| Here's another vet journal article about RMSF that I think is not behind a paywall. It sounds like if the correct antibiotic is used, the symptoms are supposed to start to clear up within a couple of days... | There shouldn't be any need for another MRI or spinal tap. The records should be transferred if you go to another hospital or doctor. Keeping your little girl and you in my prayers.

| Did they take pics (x-rays) of her neck to check for AAI ? It sounds like there may be a problem in the neck as you said she follows you with her eyes & not moving her head. You deff need to mention this symptom to your vet. |

| Sending prayers..I am also going having my girl diagnosed with encephalitis.. They switched her from predasone to dexamethasone and she is doing a lot better.. We are coming up on the 2 week mark in a few days, and that's usually when she would crash on predasone. |
