| Spider Bite/ Sick baby We woke up two days ago and Phoebe had a red knot on her hip a little bigger than a quarter and running a fever. The vet said it looked to her like a spider bite and her temp was 103. They put her on antibiotics and we have to keep warm compresses on it. Last night it started to open a little and this morning it started draining and you could clearly see the infection coming out. She is still not herself . Hoping for a quick recovery I do not like seeing her like this Has anyone seen or had this happen? Would love to share the pictures in the stages we saw , but at the same time I do not want to gross anyone out. Thanks Rhonda

| The vet told us yesterday that had it been a black widow she wouldn't of made it through the night. I have seen a few big brown ones lately because of all the rain so I'm thinking maybe that was it. This is something new to me. The vet seems to think she'll be ok in a few days we just have to let it drain and keep it clean. and I didn't send the drainage pic (YUK)

| My mother told me about some stuff they used WAY back in the '30's and '40's....old timers called it "drawing salve".....she told me grandma put this on splinters, glass, boils, etc" that any of her 13 kids developed, and it drew out the offending issue....so years ago, I got on line and searched until I found this stuff....it is now called "Squire Ichthammol Drawing Salve" and I immediately ordered me some! Like momma said she remembered, it is a greasy, black salve/ointment stuff, smells like a jar of crude oil.....but this old timers stuff WORKS!!!! It makes boils or pimples come to a head, it draws out splinters of wood or glass, rose thorns, bee stingers, etc......I use it to do all the mentioned above.....and I would guess that stuff would help draw out the nasty infection/pus/drainage/dead cells produced by that whatever it is.....I have used it on my dogs for rose thorns in paws....but you have to cover the affected area because you dont want this black ointment all over your house/furniture!!! For a boil or draining bite on the dogs back, this would be great because you can more easily cover the area with a dressing, either a 4 x 4, or a onsie that we use on these dogs when they have had surgery to keep them from licking/biting at sutures.....I have NO idea where I got this stuff...google it and it will come up if you are interested.... |

| I use the same thing, Ichthammol Ointment, lol, my grandmother and mother used it. My pharmacy had to special order it for me lol. Stinks to high heaven, but works like a miracle. Thanks for the heads up on the other uses for it. I use it mainly for boils.

| I'm so glad you posted the pictures. Thank you for that. I'm so sorry your baby girl got bit! I believe Prid is another brand of Itchamal drawing salve, maybe at your local drugstore or Walmart.
