| Hello all worried about my baby pooping issue Hello everyone. I am new to the forums and a new Yorkie owner. Gizzy is an almost 9 week old "teacup" Yorkie. He is the love of our life. We have had him for two days and he does have a vet appt for Wed morning. However... Yesterday we noticed that though he pees ok his pooping is very odd. Yesterday he went a tiny bit and since then he has only had liquidy stoles when we clean his bum off. He is on a chicken and rice diet and I am wondering if I should add some pumpkin. He is eating ok. Doesn't appear to be in pain. His tummy isnt distended. He is as active as a baby can be. He has pushed so much his little bum is swollen also. He keeps acting like he wants to go but its the same thing. A lot of trying for no results except the liquid. I plan to check in with the vet and see if I can get him in tomorrow but is there any info anyone can add? Anything I can do to help him in the meantime? |

| I would get this boy in asap, not Wed! For only 9 weeks old, firstly he should still be with his mommy. Second, since he is so small and young he can go downhill very quickly. Make sure he is drinking water, and if not you need to get him to. If he has diarrhea he is dehydrated. Also check to make sure his gums are pink and wet. If they go gray and sticky he is in trouble. I'm thinking he may have a parasite. Make sure the vet checks for worms/parasites. Also make sure you bring the shot records your breeder administered so far.

Welcome to YT . Congrats on your new baby! Given this little one shouldn't even be in a home yet (should be w/ Momma until 12 weeks old, which makes a huge difference) - I'd get this baby to the vet ASAP. The fact that he is trying and straining to poo and nothing comes out could mean trouble. Why is he eating chicken and rice btw? That is not a balanced diet at all for an adult, but especially not for a developing puppy. What was he eating at the breeder's?

| Actually he was a rescue situation. Someone pretty much left him so we took him in. I took him in late last night and he is doing much better. We were in the process of changing him over foods (I forgot that tidbit) to what the vet recommended to us via a conversation. He is doing much better now. We are still using a small syringe to make sure he is getting enough water. Vet said other then the fact he is young and tiny he is healthy. We have a follow up on Thursday now just to make sure he is growing as he should be. I know he should still be with mommy but since it isn't an option I'm doing all I can for him :0) Thanks for the warm welcome and any other tips or hints for an experienced parent would be great. As in foods you have tried and love feeding times or what have you. I'm all ears for any advice. Thanks :0) |

| Oh that poor pup! That must mean he was taken away from his mommy even earlier then. Glad to hear you took him to the vet and he has a follow up on Thurs. Did the vet give him anything for his diarrhea/tummy upset? As far as foods, I've give whatever the vet recommended for now. You can always slowly change him over once he gets better. Just look for meat as first ingredients that are specific, like duck, beef, chicken, salmon, etc and avoid any that contain generic terms like "meat" or any by-products.
