| sick yorkie I really need help! We are out of town and went to a new vet for her bordello and while there the vet did not like how Sophie reacted to the Vectra 3 for flea treatment and recommended we change. We started her on Nexguard. Last night she started waking up with a choking sound like she has bile up her nose. She has also been sneezing. I know I am probably not describing this very well. Being it is the weekend the vets offices are closed. Do you think Pepcid AC may help her? |

| Was the Bordatella through the nose ? if so it probably caused an irritation in there & Pepcid will not help with that. Also the Bordatella through the nose can give the dog the dog kennel cough. Last edited by lillymae; 08-15-2015 at 08:27 AM. |

|
Was the Bordatella through the nose ? if so it probably caused an irritation in there & Pepcid will not help with that. Also the Bordatella through the nose can give the dog the dog kennel cough.
Bordatella thru the nose is done using a LIVE virus.....and very, very often will result in a case of kennel cough....a tough case of kennel cough that is very difficult to get rid of. Vets will NOT admit that is the problem, because the next thing out of a patients mouth MAY be, "Well, since you GAVE my healthy pup kennel cough that it seems we are having a terrible time getting rid of, I shouldnt have to foot all the $$$$$ for the antibiotics, etc., I am having to buy to help my pup!~" I always insist on the shot for bordatella on the rare occasions that I give it to a dog.....either the shot, or nothing. I have had too many dogs come down with the upper respiratory issues from the drops in the nose = live virus. |

| After reading up on this it does sound like Kennel Cough. We are suppose to head home Monday but before we do we will be taking her in and have her checked and treated. Once she is back to her normal health I will be finding a new vet. I don't understand why they would use such a product when it can have such a bad side affect. I am very upset that Sophie has to suffer over the weekend because of their carelessness. Thank for this information! I will update this post after she sees the vet. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | To me, it sounds like she got the nasal bordatella vaccine...? Is there a reason you get this vaccine, btw? It's not a core vaccine, so it's not actually necessary to get it. I never get it for mine. If there is a reason you get, I'd make sure it was the injectable going forward...

| Yes I believe this is exactly what's going on. When I rescued my Wolfhound out of the shelter, they had given him the Bordatella without my knowledge & 4 or 5 days later he had pneumonia. He actually had pneumonia 3 times in a 6 mo period & we nearly lost him. He now has Chronic Rhinitis & blows HUGE boogers every where due to the vaccine causing severe damage to his sinus cavity. It is due to this that I now own stock in Lysol wipes, lol |

| Update on Sophie! Sophie was a little better today but not back to normal yet! I took her to the vet this morning before heading home to Louisiana. She said that she had sinusitis and if it is a reaction from the vaccine she gave her an antibiotic. She should be over it in a few days. They also put in her file to not use the internasal but an injection only in the future. Thanks again everyone! |
