I'm sorry. I didn't forget about you guys, I've just been so stressed out. I brought her home last night, but she isn't doing any better. My bank account couldn't take much more at $500 a day. I have 2 bags of iv fluid that I have to give to her (sub-q), metronidazole, and a last dose of dewormer (just as a precaution). She is very lethargic but hates to be alone, so if I set her down she wastes precious energy trying to get back to me. So, I have just been keeping her tucked inside my shirt so she can sleep and stay warm. She is still vomiting and having very watery/slimy diarrhea. It's a huge struggle to get any food into her, despite using a syringe. She just gags it back up or vomits it out soon after. I'm really worried that she is going to tap out very soon... she was so very tiny to begin with, and now she is just skin and bones. The co-breeder has let me know that the other pups are not doing well at all, either.

I'm very sorry that you and your baby are going through this. Virkon can easily be purchased online. You are spending the time bleaching things; you might as well use what will properly kill the virus.

My vet and I were recently discussing vaccines. My little girl is six years old, and for the past couple of years we have been titering her instead of giving her a booster shot. Although she is healthy, he feels giving her a shot is riskier than not giving her a shot. He confirmed what I have been reading, which is most likely once a pup has been given the series of puppy vaccines and their one year booster, they should be immunized for life. He has been at the practice for nineteen years. He has not seen a dog with parvo or distemper that had their puppy vaccines and one year booster. Your elderly Yorkies should be fine. My last Yorkie passed away close to her seventeenth birthday. We walked for miles each day, and she was exposed to lots of dogs. We stopped giving her all vaccines after she was diagnosed with an enlarged heart when she was nearly eleven.

I used to revaccinate when they were 4 years old, then again at 8 years old, then no more. I agree that all the reputable medical research indicates lifetime immunity.....I just get gutless and revaccinate every 4 years up to 8 years old. My dogs never leave the property, no dogs come onto the property, and visitors that come to see babies AFTER they have had their second puppy shot at 11 weeks old, go only as far as my entry hall and walk on sheets sprayed with Virkon.

My current and past yorkies got their boosters every 3 or so years as well. I think yearly vaccines are unnecessary, and the slew of strange problems that may accompany them are scary, like cancer at the site and such.

Well, bank account be damned- I took Hazel back to the vet this afternoon. I was doing the subQ fluids, but I couldn't keep up with the level of fluids she was losing through the diarrhea and vomiting. She couldn't stomach even a taste of food, and she looks like a walking skeleton. She kept her antibiotic down for all of 3 seconds and her gums started turning white, so I told my husband I was on my way to sell my kidney. I had her readmitted. If I have to get a title loan on my car, so be it. Her breeder informed me that she lost a pup this morning, and another one is on his way out. (She also has one that could go either way, and one that is doing okay.) When she told me about the pup that passed, I realized that would also quickly be Hazel's fate without a direct IV line. She may still not make it, but her chances are a bit better with the vet than at home with me. Please say a prayer for my sweet girl. I have been in tears all day.

She is such a sweet little girl in the picture. My husband, Sophie and I are praying that she pulls through for you. I admire you determination to get her the treatment she needs regardless of what it costs you.

What a beautiful little girl, my heart is breaking for this innocent little baby and you. I have had your little girl in my prayers since first reading your thread. Praying this sweet girl pulls through. (((HUGS))).

I got a late-night update from the vet. Just in the day that I had her home after being discharged, she got severely dehydrated, despite me doing the sub-q fluids. Her blood sugar was dangerously low, as well. It took them a very long time to get an IV in, but they finally got it started. Her parvo isolation buddy is a baby bernese mountain dog, and he is doing better than she is, but he has size and more body reserves on his side.

She's back on the continuous antibiotics, anti-nausea med, and dextrose. If she continues vomiting, they will start a more aggressive anti-nausea med. She has to get some food to stay in her belly, as she hasn't had any since Sunday night. She may also require a blood and/or plasma transfusion tomorrow, but I'll know more about that in the morning. I am so mentally and emotionally exhausted from this.. I can only imagine how Hazel feels!

Still Praying. I noticed in the pic that she looks very clean for a pup with Parvo, you are not bathing her are you ? if so STOP ! Only use a damp cloth to clean any stool or vomit off of her as bathing could kill her. Never bath a sick dog. I am wondering why they took her IV out ??? if you bring her home again make them leave her IV in & just cover it with tape. The IV should not be removed till they are sure she's out of the woods.

I did quickly bathe her that night- we were both covered in vomit and her fur had dried and stuck to her body everywhere. I made sure not to let her get chilled, but thank you for the warning; I did not know a bath would harm her. If she comes home again I won't bathe her until she is feeling well. I guess they took out her IV because they thought I'd be able to handle her care at home from then on.. but no, not even close!

Thanks for the update. Prayers for little Hazel and you, when our babies are sick we suffer with them.
