I got a late-night update from the vet. Just in the day that I had her home after being discharged, she got severely dehydrated, despite me doing the sub-q fluids. Her blood sugar was dangerously low, as well. It took them a very long time to get an IV in, but they finally got it started. Her parvo isolation buddy is a baby bernese mountain dog, and he is doing better than she is, but he has size and more body reserves on his side.
She's back on the continuous antibiotics, anti-nausea med, and dextrose. If she continues vomiting, they will start a more aggressive anti-nausea med. She has to get some food to stay in her belly, as she hasn't had any since Sunday night. She may also require a blood and/or plasma transfusion tomorrow, but I'll know more about that in the morning. I am so mentally and emotionally exhausted from this.. I can only imagine how Hazel feels! |
