| vomiting and loose stool Hey guys..... What would I do without you all.....you have trained me so well that I am out working and not on the list with Yorkie problems......BUT now my baby is not eating ok and has lost 1 1/2 lbs. in about 3 months. If it wasn't for the weight loss I would not be on this thread...hope this is ok. About June or July GiGi got the runs (diarrhea) and I put her on home made chicken and rice as I have for many years with both my Yorkies and it has cleared up in less than a week. This year and last 2 years she has been getting a bout of the runs and it has taken longer to clear up. Last year I changed her dog food to senior and that worked well for a year and a little longer. This year she was rejecting this dog food so I had to change it again (after her bout with this years diarrhea) and this new dog food she rejects now after eating it for about 2 months (with little to no problems.....maybe a little tummy bile once). I just took her to her Vet yesterday for her annual check up which includes a full panel of blood work and I explained the problem we are having with GiGi's eating. I am waiting for the results which I will get tomorrow. I am wondering if any of you have experienced this. As I write this GiGi had eaten a small amount of my other Yorkies dog food (GiGi's old dog food) and today at 3am she did vomit her chicken and rice (mostly digested) and this morning started with the runs again, this is from eating her old dog food. I am trying to get some rice or bread into her to stop the runs (which are not that bad...under control) but she rejects it. I tested her appetite to see if she will eat at all , with a small amount of cake and she went for it big time. So she does have an appetite (that is the only good thing and her mood is playful and perky). If you have seen this or heard of anyone who has gone thru this with their Yorkie please send me the suggestions. The sooner I get her on a stable diet the better. I don't want her to loose any more weight. Thanks for reading and I am sorry this is so long. Hugs, Tina

| Gigi Sorry to hear your baby is having these GI issues. Good that you took her to the vet for tests. These should show if there is anything wrong with her system, or if she just has a sensitive GI system. Hope it is not this, but these symptoms can indicate pancreatitis and it flares up if the food is too fatty. But only the vet can diagnose what is troubling your baby and you will get the results soon. Hope she feels better soon. Please let us know what the vet suggests. |

| As dottiesyrky said, yorkies do tend to have sensitive stomachs. Are you giving her any treats? Any chewies?

I would put her nothing by mouth for 24 hours, give her irritated system time to cal down....I would give her some yogurt to recolonize her bowel.....cottage cheese to calm her upset gut.....diarrhea can give them slick gut syndrome, all the normal flora washes out and you have what resembles a pipe that has been well greased with oil....everything just slides straight thru.....after 24 hours, you will be at the vet for testing/results....if she does not have pancreatitis, you can start her off slowly on maybe some boiled chicken for 24 hours....then slowly add maybe a little rice....I will be the FIRST to admit, I have not had a dog with pancreatic issues, and if I did, they would be on Royal Canin's formula for that issue.....there are people that have lived thru that problem with their pet and have treated it successfully... with their pet, so I will gladly defer to them! Be sure and let us know what the vet says...... | |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Aw, poor little Gigi ! Ongoing tummy issues can be so very tough, and you just hate seeing these little ones not eating and not feeling well. Makes me wonder about IBS/IBD and/or also some GERD/reflux. Read more about potential GERD here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...wallowing.html Have you ever tried freeze dried raw food at all?

| Hey guys...... Thanks for responding. I think I am beginning to see some improvement and some solution to this. Although the Vet has not yet gotten back to me with her results, I have some (what I consider to be exciting) news. Yesterday I had to get something into her (because of her weight loss). I began realizing that I too at my age can not eat certain foods any more or I will also have an episode of IBS or just can not hold the foods down....much like my little peanut. So I ran to the super market bought some cantaloupe, bananas, salmon, sweet potatoes and ground turkey. I offered her some banana she refused, I offered her some cantaloupe she ate it. At the same time I was baking the sweet potatoes. The cantaloupe still gave her loose stool not too long after she ate it. When the sweet potatoes were finished (figured they are starch and will also bind her a little) I offered her some and she ate it...I then cooked the salmon and she ate some too. I mixed the sweet potatoes and the salmon and put a little white bread in the sweet potatoes to give her a little more starch. Hallelujah!!!!! GiGi held down the food and I gave her another feeding of it at dinner time and she held that down also. No tummy upset all night and no runs all night. This morning she got up (I am now trained to follow her when she goes to or toward the wee wee pad to she that she is ok) went to the wee wee pad and, by the time I got there had done a NORMAL poop!!!!. I was ecstatic and in awe. She did not even go to the wee wee pad during the night to do a pee as she had been doing for the last couple of months, 2 times in the middle of the night every night. I am not saying that she is cured until I get her Vet results but I think we may have found that she might be allergic to either chicken or rice and the allergy might be getting worse as she ages. Hallelujah!!!! I am hoping that is it. I will be going out today to get salmon and sweet potato kibble to begin to introduce that to her after a few weeks of no tummy problems. I will update you on the Vet results and how she is doing today. So far she is well and no accidents or tummy problem. Let's see how it goes and once again thanks for all the suggestions that I still might need to rely on and thanks for caring. It is very upsetting and worrisome to see a little one go thru this. Back to you all soon. xoxo Tina

| Yep, this very well might be IBD. I have a pup with lymphangectasia and IBD and she is on home cooked diet of tilapia and sweet potatoes. If GiGi won't eat that kibble, and you might be interested in home cooking, this website has free recipes .. of course you need to purchase the supplement but it is not that costly. www.balanceit.com Hopefully she will love the kibble and have no further issues.

| GiGi's blood work results came back OK! Yeah!!! There is just one reading regarding the kidneys that seemed to be a little off. But not enough to re do the blood work now. I told the Vet the good news about her diet and she said to keep an eye on her, if the same problem starts again she wants to do the blood work again. I told her if GiGi has any problem we will be back in. GiGi is so happy, she is gaining confidence in the food and eating the whole serving that I give her.....Yippie!!!!!. When I got back from the gym there was no mess on the floor not even a wet weewee pad. Whew, am I glad she is ok. Don't know what I would do without that little puppy (she is 11 now, lol but still my baby). Thanks again for all your help and support, and most of all for caring. xoxoxo! HUGS, Tina

| Ours came with Giardia as a puppy. He will be three in November, and he has had a sensitive tummy ever since. Our doctor said that many dogs have bacteria imbalances in their guts, just like humans. So, he recommended a daily probiotic and some Benefiber to bulk up loose stool. Also, there is a wonderful product called Canine Comfort, that helps with vomiting and diarrhea. I hope your baby feels better soon. Quote:

| When she is ready for kibble, maybe consider one of these? https://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb...lm%2Caps%2C482
