Marcel Had Foxtail In Nose Removed - Follow Up Question

Not sure how I missed this....poor Marcel I hope he is making a turn into the right direction and they don't have to look around again. I don't think we have Foxtail here in IL but I have heard others (AlaskaYorkie maybe) talk about this happening with one of his. Maybe you should shoot him am PM and ask how recovery was

Thanks for asking . He is doing much much better, but is still having these random times where he becomes super congested in the one nostril . So, I'm hoping it will just continue to improve, but if not...ugh...it's back to the vet to be put under again...our fingers are crossed that this won't be the case.

I hope it is only sensitivity to allergens because the nose was irritated and that it goes away soon. Sending best wishes.

We do have foxtails in Illinois, but an even more dangerous weed is squirrel tail barley, which is similar in appearance to a foxtail, but has even longer barbs. You can google image "squirrel tail barley" to see what it looks like. Here is some general information about foxtails and dogs from webmd:

I'd at least call the vet asap. I've heard about and read how nasty these things are, and well, I just wouldn't wait any longer.

Wow, that article is just plain scarey. They are much more serious that I would have thought, especially since they don't break down in the body and just keep moving forward.

I've never seen them here, but glad to have the awareness of potential danger.

I read on the internet they can be deadly if they get up the nose. Im glad Marcel is doing okay

I remember seeing them in the corn fields on Molokai--they came to Hawaii as weed seeds in soil. Here's an article on foxtails in Hawaii:
