Default Chloe is throwing up..

I have been home cooking for about 2 weeks now but I only started adding the Balanceit supplement for a week. Yesterday, I gave her a small amount of ground beef instead of chicken which she usually eats and then I went to work. When I came back I saw vomit all over the house! She was fine the rest of the day until I just heard her trying to vomit. I've been up with her for an hour now and the vomiting has seemed to stop.

I have also noticed that within the past week she feels much lighter when I hold her and her body is really tiny.. Much tinier than when she ate dog food. The recipe from Balanceit is in such excessive portions for her that she doesn't eat the full daily portion.

I don't know at this point what it is that has caused the vomiting or what to do? I will take her to the vet when he opens unless there are remedies for an upset tummy?

This is so scary and I feel guilty that it is my fault. I wanted to home cook because I thought it's better for her but at this point I don't even know what happened

I warned you on the beef
I think Chloe is a sensitive dog.
I would go back on puppy food until you can select a lower fat diet.
I would have your vet do a cPLi test for pancreatitis because my dog vomited last week and was dehydrated fast and had pancreatitis. You don't want her to be sicker.

IMO there is nothing wrong with dog food. I do home cook but only for my pups who need it for various medical reasons.

Wasn't Chloe just at the vet for her ear problem? Was she given medication for her ears?

Beef is not something I would be cooking for a puppy. It sounds like she is doing better on her kibble. Surely you can weigh her to see if she has lost weight?

I do homecook, but I usually don't start it until puppy is grown and I have had at least one full blood panel done.

If you really want to home cook I would recommend getting a recipe from Dr Remillard. You can do a consult with her too. As far as the vomiting and her feeling thin, I think I would take her in to be checked by the vet. Discuss food options with him. Rosie can only have chicken. Anything else makes her vomit.

I agree with everyone above. Some dogs are more sensitive than others. My Teddy cannot eat a tiny piece of scrambled egg without throwing up. I would never try beef with him. Chicken only.

Buy a scale for home use. It is helpful for monitoring health for small dogs. I have this one and it is very accurate (shop around, because I know I got a much better price): Amazon.com: Health o Meter Grow with Me Baby and...Amazon.com: Health o Meter Grow with Me Baby and...

I use a large postal scale. I purchased it years ago on Ebay, but have not seen one in a long time now. It is awesome...has a surface that is 13" x 13" and is great for weighing packages and my pups!. Made by Fairbanks.

Yeah, the beef is definitely not for her. I also think that I should go back to puppy food. She slept through the rest of the morning and did not vomit but she still has diarrhea. I gave her plain boiled chicken and she drank some water.

The BalanceIT is very difficult for me to work with for some reason because she does not want to eat a FULL chicken breast daily plus vegetables. She is only 3 lbs when I weighed her at the vets office for the ear cleaning. She gets full from half of it for the day. I think this is why she might have lost weight or feels lighter because she isn't getting enough food since she gets full.

Linda, the funny thing from all of this is that she made sure not to throw up on her new cloud 9! She really likes it, thank you for making it for us.

I think home cooking is scaring me after this episode because I don't think she's getting fully what she needs and the BalanceIT recipes themselves are excessive in amounts for us. The supplement amount itself makes the food go brown and it smells so bad that sometimes she sniffs it and walks away. I like the idea of home cooking but if there is anything out that there is close to home cooking but already balanced.. I would feel more safe with that. Does anyone have suggestions for a good puppy food besides Wellness, Blue Buffalo and Merrick? I like foods such as Primal because it looks close to "real" food but I don't want to feed her raw. I think in my situation, how she was eating before was better for her because I would feed her less than 10% unbalanced food such as a little boiled chicken plus her dry food and I knew her food was balanced and that she will be ok.

I'm so sorry Chloe is ill. I use BalanceIt, but I believe it needs to be started gradually. That's what I did when I started it with Katie, but she was three years old. If you decide to use it in the future, use it gradually so that she can get used to it. See page two of this sample diet.

I hope Chloe gets better quickly.

Default Chloe

So sorry that poor Chloe is not feeling well, hope she gets better when on different food.
I am amazed that a FULL CHICKEN BREAST is suggested for a 3 pound dog daily??? Is this a usual amount for home cookers?
That is a lot of solid protein! I don't think my always hungry 10 pounder would eat that much!
I wonder how she could lose weight on so much food?
Hope Chloe is better soon.

Thank you for that link, I did not know that the supplement needs to be introduced gradually. The only reason I couldn't get a recipe from Petdiets is because she is under 1 and it would cost me $250 for a recipe so I went with BalanceIt. I think after hearing Chloe cry while she was throwing up.. I'm too scared to use BalanceIt for now because I also was limited with recipes with them. I have 1 more month until she is 1 and then maybe I will re-order the BalanceIT with a petdiets recipe.

That's exactly the problem, she wasn't eating ALL of that! It is just so much for such a small dog. That's not even including the other vegetables that are in the recipe and potato.

Thank you for the well wishes, she has been ok after the plain boiled chicken that I gave her this morning. She's just a little stinky because she keeps passing gas but I rather her be stinky than throwing up.

Thanks, that is comforting that she does not eat ALL of the chicken.
Not wishing to counter the dietitian's advice, but could you consider cutting down the chicken amount and see how much she WILL eat?

She eats about a little less than half of it, I would say. I forgot to add this was a recipe that needs to be used with the Carnivore Blend because it is the only one for puppies. I sent them an email, hopefully they will let me return it because I still have 95% of the supplement left. If I do continue to home cook, I would prefer the regular BalanceIt not Carnivore Blend when she's 1. I think the Carnivore Blend is for people who would like to feed their dogs HIGH protein.. but from this situation I can see yorkies and high protein/fat just do not mix.
