| The vet said that pregnancy would prevent it happening. Otherwise, I would not hesitate to spay her. |

| Wasn't this from a pseudopregnancy? Couldn't that happen again resulting in the same condition? Or am I not understanding?

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | So your vet is saying to you that the only way to prevent this from happening is to breed her every heat. Which to me would be a mistake to only breed her to stop this from happening. What if breeding is not successful and this happens again, but worse if not caught in time or she doesn't have a discharge to alert you of a problem. If a spay would eliminate the chance of this ever happening again than I myself would defiantly opt to have her spayed. I couldn't and would not take the chance of this happening over and over again and only breed her in the hopes of preventing it. Ultimately the decision is yours and before you make it I would suggest you do a ton of research and make an informed decision of what is best for you gal.

My suggestion is to go to a specialist in reproduction for canines. Here is the link to their college: Animal Reproduction. American College of Theriogenologists If you can not find a specialist in your state, then I would contact one of the listed diplomats and ask for a referral in your area. General Vets have differing amounts of knowledge about reproduction and reproductive problems, what you were told might well be true in some circumstances, but not others. If this was my girl I would want to have expert guidance from a specialist. Quite frankly for me as a breeder this situation would be a huge warning sign about breeding this gal at all. One that would impel me to find out more about her condition from a specialist in this arena.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | In the same study/article I posted right at the bottom is a chart of endometrial biopsies done on 399 females and they list from high to low the frequency of the pathologies found. Mucometra is coming in around 12% not so common. How-ever that sample size is small, imo and may not be indicative within a reasonable probability to extend to an overall population of intact female dogs.

| Just an update on Baby. I went to visit her this morning and she seemed perky. She's still not eating, but the vet said that the medication she's getting makes her nauseated. I asked the vet if she would be able to have puppies, and he said yes. He said there's no problem if she's bred on her first heat. I just need to get a progesterone test 5-6 days after she shows signs of being in heat. He also told me that her uterus is almost back to normal size now, which is a good sign the treatment is working. I'm glad, I can't wait to get her home. I miss her so much. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I do hope you ask for a second opinion preferably from a specialist in reproduction. This is not something you want to mess around with.
