Help! Vaginal drainage from pregnant yorkie This is my second thread. The first one was about my pregnant yorkie not eating. Well, she's eating now, but she started having a vaginal discharge last night. It looks like pus, but doesn't seem to have an odor. I called the emergency vet and was told that if she appears to be feeling ok, there's no need to bring her in. Maybe she's not really pregnant. I can't feel the puppies yet and she'll be 7 weeks tomorrow. I thought I felt them about a week ago, but now I'm not sure. Has anyone else had this happen to their yorkie? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. |
I suggest you post these questions in the Breeder Talk forum? You might get more assistance. Breeder Talk - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community |
Please take her to the vet today. If It looks like pus and there is a question as to rather or not she is pregnant, it could be a uterine infection and believe me you don't want to take that chance. She needs to be seen. |

I would feel alot more confident in that ER vet if, when mentioning "possibly pregnant", "pus", and "vaginal discharge" all in the same sentence, they would have suggested she be seen by a vet! |
Thanks Yorkiemom. I called another emergency vet and they asked about the discharge. I'm not exactly sure if it's pus. It doesn't seem to have an odor and it's sticky. Doesn't pus smell bad. Plus, she's finally hungry, which she hasn't been for awhile. They said that I could probably keep an eye on her and wait if she's not running a fever and eating ok. I'm going to watch her very closely and any sign of her feeling bad, she goes to the vet. Thanks so much for your input and I will post again when there's a development. |
Pus doesn't always smell bad. Some bacteria have a sweet smell. They will probably obtain a sample and check it out. Please keep us posted |
I could be a verity of things. At first I though her mucus plus was thinning but that does not show as "puss" like fluids. Plus if she is pregnant it is too soon for her mucus plug to be thinning. If she does have a UTI and it goes untreated it could result in a very painful whelping. Some infections can be passed onto the pups as they pass during whelping so this is something you do not want to be lax with. I would suggest taking her to your regular vet first chance you get. |
I wouldn't hesitate to take her to a vet today to make sure all is ok. |
