Absolutely!!!! My business card with my cell number & email is posted in ORs, Surgeon's offices, NM Depart., OR Schedulers offices and Material Mgment at every hospital that I go to. Surgeon's private numbers are in my phone and I'm in theirs because I want everyone to know how to reach me. They all know that they can call me any time if they need me. I'm just a clinician....the Med Reps are selling and trying to make money. Even if it's a new department, the reps should be all fighting for business. They should have that part and a FREE lunch at delivery!

And those phone numbers are near and dear to those in surgery scheduling/coordination - never farther than arm's reach in all of the phones. One call and the rep shows up early for the case with their equipment and buys a great take-out or catered meal all around after a big or difficult case! I'd love to have the expense accounts or mad money of some of those reps.

Well they want the business and will do whatever is needed to get it. A lot of hospitals now don't allow the free lunches that used to be the norm.


I feel bad for causing a slight derailment of Sprite's thread. Let's hope tomorrow brings some progress in getting Sprite the shunt parts and surgery that is so much needed.

But all that was to say those equipment reps in human medicine are hot to trot for the business so it is hard to understand what the hold up is with this canine shunt unless it's been about finding an affordable one that won't cost the very earth. I sure hope there is good news soon.

I believe it is a human shunt and that might be the issue.

I worded that badly - I was just using "canine" to denote that maybe the same urgency isn't attached to the medical implant business as in human implant surgery and if so, that's a true shame. Because the money is about the same or more for much veterinary surgery these days! But the urgency seems lacking.

I think the neurologist wasn't set up for the part and didn't anticipate the delays, prohibitive costs from suppliers, or regulatory issues. It seemed like there was an urgency but an inability to get to execution and I just feel bad that we didn't step in to help earlier to locate other resources near the border.

I've talked to the neurologist and the technician several times and I know they're working hard on this. No doubt it will be much easier for the next person once a contract is established. The neurologist is experienced in doing the VP Shunt procedure. This procurement issue should be sorted out apparently by the end of the day. We do have an alternative location in the States to consider but it would be better to avoid travelling for Sprites sake if at all possible. I will update as soon as I have news.

Kmarla, I am praying for Sprite and you that everything will come together so that Sprite can have the surgery without further delay.

Hoping this little baby gets her shunt delivered tomorrow and can have the surgery. Hopefully, it will be the help she's needed and another YT miracle. I pray this little one comes through her surgery just fine and her rehab is 100%. We're pulling for you, Sprite, and know your mommie is holding strong for you. I'm praying for both of you.
