Prayers for Barney

Thank you all for your thoughts and kind words about Barney. I requested all his records they were so vague -- and while I was happy to rule out more fatal things, I wasn't satisfied that we had a good explanation of why Barney was having this tremor. As weeks have passed, the anticonvulsant medication wasn't doing anything, even at a doubled dose. Having used this medication in my dog Teddy who suffers from epilepsy and has severe, whole brain (generalized) seizures, I knew it would have worked for a much more milder "seizure". I don't know if it came to me in a dream, but I felt I had to press on, in case we were missing something. After emailing the doc, and thinking out loud with him about this, he agreed! He is is testing him for cushings (esp Atypical Cushings). That will happen next week and we have to wait for tests from the Univ of TN to see if Barney has abnormalities. He may be 13, but he has the best brain in the house, it just doesn't add up!

Atypical Cushings, it's a possibility. Does Barney have any other "symptoms" besides the tremor? Anxious to hear how things turn out. How's he doing now? Prayers always...

That is saying a lot because I think his mom is a pretty good thinker, and definitely a great caretaker. I'm glad you are pressing this, and I pray that you and the doctors can figure it out soon so that Barney can just be his 100% awesome self.

He does have some symptoms, but very vague. Enough to test for, in my opinion, and thankfully the neurologist agrees with me and is sending the tests out. I don't know what we will find and maybe we won't find anything but it is worth doing it.

Barney is doing pretty well. He had a cough from the endotracheal tube down his throat for the 3 hours he was under anesthesia. The neurologist confirmed that he does have a collapsing trachea so it's probably irritated. But he's doing well and improving. He is happy. Unfortunately, his mysterious episodes are not changed. He seems like they don't bother him. I've been reluctant to post videos here but maybe I will so you all can see how strange it is.

I understand your wanting to know...I am a lot like that as well. When my last Yorkie, Spencer, got so sick, I just wanted to know why??? The vet just said "old age", this didn't set well with me and my need to know. He was only 11 years old...and had no obvious signs of old age. This still to this day bothers me...I should have demanded answers...instead I took him home to take his last breath. Hope you, with the vet's help, are able to figure this mystery out. In the mean time give him plenty of love and attention....and an extra kiss for me. Bless his little heart.

Barney is turning around!
We've concluded that his tremors were possibly made worse by an antibiotic he was taking. Now that he's been off of it, his tremors are decreased significantly. We are waiting on the adrenal panel and cushings tests because that needs to be ruled out. We are so happy for Barney!
