| My Yorkie, Boo Radley, has lymphangiectasia. Hi, I'm new to this great site and wish to give some background on my Yorkie, Boo Radley. He has been treated for lymphangiectasia for 5 months now. He is being fed the canned and dry Hills Prescription Diet i/d Low Fat, GI Restore food. He has also been on Prednisone and is now down to 1/4 pill of 1.25 mg. His allergies are returning as the Prednisone is diminished, but his protein levels have been normal. He has gained weight, weighing 13.8lbs 3 weeks ago. I believe his best weight to be 12 lbs. or a bit less. He turned 5 years old on Oct. 10th. I'm sure the steroid has added weight plus his appetitie is increased on it. He has an AM appointment with his vet for a fasting blood test and fecal sample test tomorrow. Here is my question. Have any Yorkie owners with pets having lymphangiectasia ever tried feeding them Stella and Cheweys Raw Diet? It's supposed to be great for eliminating Intestinal Bowel Syndrone, allergies and a wonderful cure - all. Please let me know. I'm seriously considering asking my vet to let me try it. Your feedback would be so helpful. Thanks, Mimi |

| Message from Kipper Hello, Mimi I just want to tell you about my Yorkie, Kipper. I feel like I need to get this message to you so much. Kipper is a 10 year old Yorkie diagnosed with this awful disease in 2010. We have been in and out of the vet hospital so many times for low protein levels. He has a really advanced case of it. The vet told me 2 months ago his meds have quit working. I was so upset that I wanted to try one more product. Kipper is taking Primal Defense powder by Garden of Life on his food. I sprinkle it everytime he eats anything. His diet is W/D low FAT prescriptive diet. I prepare some fresh vegetables and sweet potato for him. At night to fill him up I do add white potatoe with the canned food to fill him up. Kipper is 6 weeks with no vet visits.....He looks good and I think he is really feeling better. I just want to get this message to all who are faced with this disease. Just use the Primal Defense powder scoop in can on all he eats!!!!! God Bless, Jeanne |

| I have a pup with lymphangectasia. She was diagnosed in 2001. Here is a link to her thread...perhaps it will have some useful information for you: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ia-update.html I don't know if you have been to a specialist, but I would recommend that in selecting a diet you go to a board certified nutritionist if you are planning on not feeding dog food. I would think that a raw diet would be majorly contraindicated in PLE but I am not a nutritionist. You can find a vet nutritionist at: American College of Veterinary Nutrition You could also go to PetDiets - VNC putting your pet's health first .. for more than 20 yrs! which is a website run by a vet nutritionist. If you go to the FAQs page, you can submit a question and she will answer it. I am sure she could advise you about a raw diet for these pups. I home cook for Cookie and have been told that it is part of the reason that she has done so well. Diet is of utmost importance in this condition. The only dog food that was suggested to me for her was Royal Canine Low Fat. I think you would probably get more feedback if you are in either Sick and Injured or Health and Diet. I will PM to see if this thread can get moved to one of those forums. Welcome to YT!

| Hello from Kipper's mom! Lymphangectasia under control Hi All, It's November 12 and I am happy to report that Kipper is still doing well. I do give him sweet potatoe and organic vegetables with his W/D Prescriptives diet. I do try to chop it up nicely for him and add apple sometimes. I have also given him the egg with little yolk because of the fat content. He has to have a very low fat diet! He takes vitamins and B-12 shots. As of this day and a month and a half later, we have not been back to the specialist. I give Kipper all of his meds daily, but the one thing that I did change is his probiotics. Out of desperation, I started with the Primal Defense Powder scoop on all meals and snacks. As some of you have read, he is doing great!!!!!! He even looks younger. For three years and thousands of dollars later, the poor baby has been in and out of the hospital. I'm praying this is the answer for any pup with this disease. This probiotic is awesome even though it's for humans. I know of a vet clinic in Mexico that bought it by the case for the patients. He litteraly licks the plate that it is in until every drop of powder is gone!. PS: I give Kipper Milk Thistle each day to cleanse his liver:aime eyork God Bless, I hope this helps someone that has a sick baby! |
