Emergency!! Help pls My baby Bunny is not well. She has a fever. She wont eat (she has not in a week I gave her nutri cal) She got so skinny. She keeps shivering. I took her to the vet (He was very cold and seems more concerned about making money he kept pointing out the obvious and even the vets assistant was more caring . Any way it turned out she had giardia and caused a fever he metronidazole liquid and clavamox drops. Thursday It will be a week! Her fever was 104.2 at the vets and now it is 103.5. SHe is not well. Clavamox is anti biotic I just found out. NO wonder It is not bringing her fever down. When I questioned him about this he said oh bring her in bring her in again but for what ? Just to make more money! PLease help me she is my best friend ! What should I do? How can I bring down her fever?? |

thank u nana she is usually so energetic she has never been sick i cant believe this is happening. Im going to have to take her somewhere else. |
Yes, seek another vet and a.s.a.p You may find yourself in an emergency situation an soon if she continue this way!! You could try soaking her in a luke warm bath to bring the fever down. Not hot & not too cold, it must be luke warm. If that doesn't work try an ice pack under her belly. But I don't know if that would do more harm than good. I am so worried for your pup, I wish there was more I could do to help. How long has she has the fever? Has she eaten anything at all ? Is she drinking water, if so how much? Is she lethargic ? ( How is her energy level) |
You can find another vet, but it is not cheap to go to a vet. PLEASE do not let this poor baby suffer....get her to another vet NOW. The way you are describing things, she could very well die if you don't get her there NOW. |
I would try a different vet ASAP! |
I think I might be afraid to get this baby wet if she is ill. She may get chilled if she has a fever and it may make her sicker. I think your only option is to get her to a professional - a vet - as soon as possible. A fever usually indicates some sort of infection, and with these tiny babies you can't allow it to go on too long. I would take her soon if she were mine. Good luck - please keep us posted. |
Hopefully you have gotten her to another vet tonight. These babies can go down hill so fast. An Er vet may be your best bet right now to get her immediate attention. Please let us know how she is doing. |

I'm going to stray from the pack here and say kindly and gently to you, please don't waste time in trying any of the things suggested here. You have a very sick little pup and you need to get her to a vet, a different vet....she needs help. If you can not afford to do so we can offer you suggestions such as CARECREDIT. Good Luck and please let us know how your pup makes out.... |

How is your pup? Were you able to get her to a vet? |
dog If there is an emergency vet clinic in your town get your dog there asap! Yorkies are fragile and go downhill very fast. I will pray for your dog. |

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: This baby could very well die on you if you do not get her treated aggressively...she is already dehydrated, I am sure....she needs to be force fed if she wont eat.....she needs at the very least, sub-q fluid injected...probably needs IV fluids.... |
i found another vet!! got an appointment for tomorrow!!! its a little pricier but honestly Idc I jst need her to get better she started eating a little bit more but still has the fever wish me luck guys! |

Perhaps you could call the new vet and explain to them the pup has had a fever for over 5 days and that you are VERY worried about her and that you'd like to bring her today. Tell them that you will sit and wait in the waiting room until they can see you. It will not cost anymore to do this and your baby will be seen sooner. I would certainly try to take her in today. This baby needs to be seen sooner than later! You both will feel much better if you do this. Please keep us posted. |

That's good that she is eating and getting around better but I agree, get her into the vet today !! I don't know any vet, including mine that will not make an acceptation for a sick pup. |
Please get her to the vet asap |

Giardia in Dogs | VCA Animal Hospitals Giardia is sometimes hard to get rid of and it may require her to be on the metronidazole longer. You also need to figure out how she contacted the giardia so you can get rid of the source. I pray she starts feeling better soon. |
Emergency Vet where all the latest equipment resides and fluids, meds can help bring temp down until a diagnosis is made. If not, you will very likely lose her quickly. |
Fever can cause a pup to lose appetite. Not sure if giardia causes fever? Fever can be an indication of infection...she is not shivering bc she's cold, she's shivering bc she has a fever. Hope all goes well @ the vet. Make sure her fever does not go over 104-105, that is an emergency situation. She can die if her fever reaches 106. How are you taking her temp, from the rectum? High Fever in Dogs: Symptoms and Treatments I would borrow money from a family member or friend or even a neighbor (promise I'll clean their place once a week for a month for example), whatever I can to take her to the vet asap. She might need VitB shot, must have sub-q fluids & possible IV. |

My guess is he is handicapped because of that....vets are not mind readers and need physical exams and vital signs in addition to tests being run. There is a reason for the fever....some type of infection and he is giving meds to try to cover anything that it could be that is causing the fever. Giving something for the fever is not the goal....a fever is there because the body is trying to fight whatever your puppy has. So....if the cause can be fixed, the fever will go down. I hope you can find a way to get your puppy the care that is needed. It is very scary that she has been ill for so long. |
