| Possible injury from agility Macy was a little over a year old when I started taking classes in agility for her and me. We took lessons for about a year and all this time I thought about the A Frame where she had to climb a steep incline and go back down the other side and hoped it wouldn't be hard on her knees. One night in class she started holding her back leg up while running. I took her to the vet the next day. She looked at her and said she couldn't feel anything wrong because the kneee cap was tight. We didn't go back to agility because she started skipping with that leg occasionally when we would go for a walk. I switched vets last year and told him about her skipping so he took x rays and checked her out. He said her knees look fine and so does her hip and spine. She is still skipping occasionally when we go for a walk. But yesterday, for a change, I took her and Molly for a walk on a trail they had never been on along the lake and ....she never skipped once. She also does not skip when she walks in the grass. We have an appointment with an orthopedist at U of I tomorrow morning to find out what is going on with her. I will feel terrible if he tells me she may have injured herself doing agility. Has anyone else done agility and had this happen?

| Poor Macy. I don't have any experience in this area, but I wanted to wish her and you well with your appt with the orthopedist. Hoping the doctor can determine why she is skipping. It is interesting that she doesn't skip in the grass and she didn't do it on the trail.

| That's what I thought too. There were so many smells on the trail I wondered if that took her mind off of her leg hurting. The second vet mentioned one of the possibilities of her skipping was that it was just a habit. I have no idea why she doesn't skip in grass. Hopefully I'll have some kind of answer tomorrow.

| If only our little ones could talk to us and tell us what is bothering them. Does she skip at all indoors?

| She only skips when going around a corner in my hallway. That is the only place. It's the craziest thing.....she can go around the corner at a full run on three legs.

| I don't have experience here either. But since you said the vet said her knee is a bit tight have you been massaging the leg, or tried a doggy masseuse. As a runner myself I have a friend who is a therapy masseuse massage my legs every once in awhile and it does wonders. She could have maybe pulled a muscle one day, they just go used to lifting her leg up. I want to put Draco in agility at our local ZoomRoom when he gets to be a year, so please keep us updated anything would be helpful.

I'll find out tomorrow what is going on. I just hope the subject of surgery doesn't come up.

| Crossing fingers and paws for you that surgery will not be necessary.

| Thanks, I hope the surgery word doesn't come up either. Her appointment is at 9:30 A and they said to plan on her being there for 3 - 4 hours so I'll post when I get back. Please, keep those paws and fingers crossed.

| I wonder if she could have a tear in the skin between the pads on her feet? I am curious now to hear what the vet finds. Praying for an easy fix!

| We just got back from orthopedist at U of Ill. Macy has LP Grade 1 in her left knee and was surprised to hear she has Grade 2 in her right knee. She has been skipping while walking with her left knee but the right knee has never bothered her. We have to start 2 weeks of anti inflamatory medicine and crate rest for 4 weeks then go back for a re-evaluation. She did mention surgery might be down the road but for right now wants to take this approach. I am going to start another thread for tips on crate rest when your baby has never been in a crate before. This is going to be a challenge.

| I'm glad the news isn't worse, but I don't envy you having to go through crate rest. Sending best wishes for Macy that the med and rest will solve her problem.
