YT 2000 Club Member | If she is in pain and not doing any better.....take her back to the vet! Why is she on antibiotics and why does she have a cough? Is it Kennel Cough?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What, specifically, are the antibiotics for? Is it for kennel cough? Has she had the vaccine? Kennel cough vaccine can actually cause kennel cough, btw. If she has it, you want to keep a very close eye on it bc it can turn into a deadly case of pneumonia in puppies. She should be on a cough suppressant too, if she is coughing at night. Is she shaking all the time? After meals? Or? If in doubt as to how she is doing, ALWAYS err on the side of going to the vet - be safe rather than sorry. These young puppies can go downhill extremely fast...remember, they've only been alive for 8 weeks...that's very fragile / young / vulnerable.

I couldn't have said it any better! Get a call into the vet at least. Explain exactly what she's doing.

| An 8 week old puppy has very little reserve, and when they become sick, it is dangerous and an emergency. What was your baby's diagnosis....why is she getting the antibiotics? If you do not see an improvement within 12 hours, get back to the vet! (I never give the vaccination for kennel cough, as the 4 times I have given it to my dogs, it made 3 of them sick with the disease and it took MONTHS for them to get over it.......I do not board or take my dog to a groomer....although I have heard alot of groomers do not require it any more...) Good luck with you baby...stay on top of it and do not sit on anything to see if "she will get over it"...they can go downhill rapidly and you will loose her. |

| Also after giving Nutri-Cal, be sure to give her some kind of protein (food). It will help to keep her blood sugar up and it won't drop as fast.

| Keep a very close watch on her!!!! I agree that if you don't see any improvement go back to the Vet. She is so tiny, she can get really bad really fast!
