I am always reminded of a former member here whose dog got pancreatitis from a green pea. It was only one pea -- but it set him off. It is not known all things that can trigger these dogs, and the breed has a propensity toward gastrointestinal disorders. No table scraps for her. She should eat only her meals from Dr Remillard, and you should not deviate or alternate ingredients. It's not worth it. I hope she feels better soon.

I was shocked to read about a single pea initiating pancreatitis. Apart from possible choking on the pea has anyone any medical explanation for this phenomenon?? I knew that meat scraps could cause trouble but I thought veggies were ok. I am stressed enough trying to feed my dog safely, but now have to worry about one pea? I hope that this was not the real cause but just seemed that it was.

Actually it's true that it was what set the dog off. His owner fed him strictly dog food so she knew that this was the culprit. I have a dog myself who has had two serious episodes of pancreatitis. He has had a hospitalization last year after eating two or three kibble that wasn't his. So yes dietary indiscretions are serious for some dogs and Rosie is already sensitive so I thought that a warning to Rhonda's husband was in order. Peas have a lot of fiber and sugar so that's probably why it set off Dex back then. I feed a low residue diet to my dog, and very low fat, and he is still inflamed on ultrasound. Some dogs just smolder and once you know that they do it seems prudent to just avoid anything but their food.

Ok, I think I got through to him. Especially after the pea story. I am going to give him "allowable snacks" at dinner. As he seems to have a hard time getting past the begging. BTW they don't beg me. Because I don't give in. Thanks for the stories and the links everyone!

Rosie is playing today. I can still hear her tummy rolling so I'm keeping her on boiled chicken and rice until tomorrow. If she is better tomorrow we will go back to our regular diet. Thanks for the prayers and special thoughts!

I watched him like a hawk tonight Linda. And I have rode him about it all day. I think he is sick of hearing me. Lol.

Well today Rosie has been full of it! I'm thinking she is feeling better!

she just had her afternoon meal. I gave her the regular home cooked meal she usually gets. So we will see how she does. Hopefully she will be fine!
