| Not eating or drinking Hey everyone, Our little Zoey is about 9 months old and we had her fixed the end of January. I took her out to go to the bathroom this morning and everything appeared to be normal. I proceed to get her breakfast ready (she loves to eat and we havent had any problems getting her to eat since we switched to mixing the wet and dry food) but she wouldnt eat it. She seemed interested, would walk to her bowl, smell it and walk away. The same thing with her water. I had to leave for work but my husband says that she stayed that way the whole time I was gone. She has been pretty lethargic and just not herself. She has been walking around with her tail between her legs but as soon as she is outside her energy seems to return but not fully. We got concerned so we took her into the vet, and she had a fever of 104 and we could tell when we took her in that she was starting to become dehydrated. She is still currently there on iv fluids and they gave her something to help with the fever. But we are curious if anyone else has a problems like this? We didnt have them run any tests because she isnt vomitting or having diarehha.. I had the thought that maybe, and i dont know if its possible, she would be going into heat and that might be the cause of the current issues? We dont want to have to take her back in tomorrow being that this visit tonight is already costing a pretty penny but we will if there are any signs of her getting worse, we would just like some advice or opinions on what might be going on.. Thanks everyone! |

| Something must be causing the fever. Did the vet say what they thought that might be? What kind of tests did they suggest? Even if she recovers now, it may return much worse if there is something going on that you don't know about that, if treated now, might prevent a return that could be much more serious and costly the next time. I'd try to do the testing or blood work if you possibly can. |

| I agree let them run the tests what ever it is it may not have hit full force maybe with symptoms yet so the test could help pin point before it gets worse. |

I would at least have a full blood work panel done on her. I hope she will be ok.

| Hi, yes, definitely let them run the tests. A fever indicates an infection...but from what? They need to find that out. I've read that having surgery can trigger conditions that a pup has into coming out/to the surface. Run those tests, please. Praying for your baby. Please, keep us posted ok? Hang in there!

| Oh my goodness...you definitely need to let them run tests on her. The vet is handicapped in trying to diagnose without proper diagnostics. A temp of 104 is very high. Do hope your baby is ok today....

| Just last weekend my 6 year old stopped eating and drinking for two days. she did however have diarrhea. we took her to the vet after the second day and it turned out she did have an infection. the way they found it was via blood test, i also gave them a go to test her stool. she was hooked to an IV for two days and on day one with the fluids and antibiotics she started eating again. the vet also gave us some cans of food that are suppose to be very tempting for dogs maggie just loves it! its not meant to be a permanent diet but it definitely helped her start eating. maybe you can ask about that to help with the appetite. these dogs are so small you have to be very careful about not eating or drinking. they dont have much weight to lose. |

| Thanks for all your feedback, here's an update and would like some more advice as this is our first experience with issues like this. We picked her up from the vet last night around 9, and her fever had went away and she was back to normal or so it seemed. We brought her home and gave her a little wet dog food because she kept running to her bowl and she hadnt eaten all day. Then this morning around 3:30 she threw up. She threw up another 2 times the last being at 6:30. After that she was back to her normal self so we decided to give her a little food as well as the medication that was sent home with us. The medication that was sent home was an amoxi-drops and KETOPROFEN syrup. Which was also given as an injection too. We went about our day until around 3 and she started throwing up again, this timing being her food that we had previously given her. Around 3:30 after her throwing up 2 more times we found another vet that was open and got her in. They ran blood tests and gave her an injection of some sort that is supposed to help with the vomitting and sent us home. They were supposed to send us home with FAMOTIDINE tablets but when we got home we realized that they hadnt sent them and we tried calling and they were already gone. We looked up the side affects of the KETOPROFEN syrup and it says its very irritating to the stomache, when we pointed out the time frames of when she had gotten it and her throwing up, the vet we took her too today acted like it could be related. Has anyone else ever had to give their little one this medication? We are not giving it to her tonight to see if that might be the cause, but we seem to be at a complete loss as to what is going on. It seems like she will throw up three-five times and then be done for several hours and goes back to her normal playful self and The fever has not returned. The vet advised us to not feed her tonight, which is understandable, but she keeps looking for her food. And he also advised not to leave water out and to just give her ice cubes to lick... I guess my main concern would be that the KETOPROFEN syrup is doing more damage to her system then anything and I dont want to hurt her. Advice? |

| This may be a stupid idea but have you checked to make sure any dog food or treats you have given her are not on a recall?

| We haven't but that's a good idea. We stopped giving her treats when she started throwing up but I will look into that more. Thanks for the idea. |

| Was she in any kind of pain? As Ketoprofen is a pain medication and it can cause upset stomach.

| If she continues to have episodes of vomiting she needs to get to a vet! If you don't know of an EC in your area, I suggest you look one up just in case you need them during the night. She could have pancreatitis and that can turn deadly in a NY minute. The fact that she was not well from the start concerns me....I doubt the meds are making her sick. I think she has been sick and the symptoms may be escalating. I hope I am wrong. Just don't let her go too long because these little ones don't have much reserve and can dehydrate and die quickly.
