| Protein Losing Enteropathy My four y/o Yorkie (Paulianna) has PLE. She was a very sick yorkie when I took her to the vet. She is now being treated with weekly B12 shots, steroids, and antibiotics and a prescription low fat diet. She has lost a lot of muscle mass/weight. Her poop is back to normal and she is a lot more active than before. Has anyone struggled with this prognosis and what was the outcome. I know its not curable but I would like to maintain her for as long as I can. Polly |

| Sorry you and your pup are having to deal with this... others have maintained their pups on special diets through a canine nutritionist with much success. Keeping you both in my prayers.

| I am so sorry to hear about your little Pollianna being ill. My Cookie was diagnosed with PLE in December 2011 and she is doing very well.....so don't give up hope! This condition is very treatable. Sometimes if it takes a while before the diagnosis is made and if they have been sick for a while it can take a bit to turn them around. The most important thing is to get them eating! If she is, I strongly suggest that you do a consult with a veterinary nutritionist. I did and home cook for Cookie....I believe that diet is largely responsible for her doing so well. Here is a link to her story that may be helpful to you: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ia-update.html I will keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers. Give me a hollar if I can help you in any way. Keep the faith!!

| Thanks to all of you for your best wishes. LadyJane - After hearing of Cookie, I feel some relief. Could you share some of your low fat recipes? I am feeding her prescription food (Royal Canin Low Fat Veternarian Diet) I took Polly Girl in for her B12 shot and check-up this evening. She is doing well with her new diet even though she is still losing weight. She is much more active than the previous week. She goes to the vet every Monday for the shot and every other week, the vet checks her blood. Thank you so much for your input. Polly, Isle of Palms, SC |

| Shells 123 Your dogs symptoms sounds just like my dogs. The much bloated stomach and the awful smelling diarhea and listlessness. I thought surely she was not going to make it. I believe the B-12 shot is for energy. Polly Girl finally made the turn around. It takes about three weeks for things to get better. I have been told that she will have relapses. I did not have the endoscopy or surgery for her. She was so sick, putting her to sleep for a procedure would have killed her. How old is your dog? I am so sorry for you. I really do know what you're going through. \ Polly |

| Protein Losing Enteropathy Shells 12: I am feeding her prescription food (Royal Canin Low Fat Veternarian Diet). I give her two cups mixed with one heaping tablespoon of cottage cheese. She loves it. I feed her twice a day but my vet said to give her all she can eat. She played ball with me this morning. She loves to play ball and she's very aggressive with it. This is the first time in more than two months that she's been able to play. I know the good time won't last but I'm going to enjoy her while it does. I leave for Israel in a week and I have a sitter for my three yorkies and two African Grey Parrots. I truly hate leaving them. I will be gone for eleven days and I will worry the whole time. Don't give up on your yorkie. My son has told me that so many times and she finally turned around - Thank You, God! Polly Polly |
