| itchy flaky smelly skin Hi My 7 year old yorkie Snuffy has recently started to scratch and has flaky skin and is now starting to smell even after she is bathed. I got a special shampoo for her skin from the vet but hasn't made any difference. She is fed on dry food especially for Yorkshire Terriers. Any advice please x |

| Aww you poor baby. Did your vet do a skin scrape and culture? That may be your next step or a dermatologist. The smell makes me wonder if there is more than just dry skin going on. Maybe staff infection or yeast?? You can alwasy get a second opinion from another vet. Good luck and WELCOME to YT.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If there is smell, I'd be concerned about yeast (systemic or local). Check her armpits, paw crevices, ears, neck, inner legs etc to check if you see anything. I'd ask my vet to do a skin scrape for bacterial veiw (which they can do immed,at the appt) and ask for a sample to be grown in culture. If my dog had yeast, I would want to treat w/ a regimen of Diflucan (fluconazole) - it's easy, fast, and very efficacious.

| She must have got skin infection of some sort. Take her to the dermatologist and get her cured as soon as possible. Otherwise it will increase the infection. exfoliating body scrub Last edited by carolsamuel; 01-25-2013 at 03:53 AM. Reason: By mistake |
