New yorkie has cough- sent back to breeder so they could care for him for me?

Grim is so cute. When I got Cali at 9 weeks she had kennel cough pretty bad and gave it to my pomeranian. It took them both about 3 months to completely clear of the cough. It gradually improved. They both never had a problem with it again. I hope Grim gets over his soon and can be back with you.

The have started on their vaccinations, they are protected medically, and their little immune systems are more substantial....they can fight off such simple things as GI upsets caused by weaning, most stress related illnesses, etc. The emotional and social and physical benefits of them being with their mothers up until 12-14 weeks of age are well documented, so I wont go into all that.....some people do not believe what is written about that....I choose to believe it, and I am the breeder, so none of my babies ever leave before 14weeks of age. I respect that your breeder was concerned and took that baby back until they could get him through this....however, in my opinion, that was the least they could do since they let him go so young, unvaccinated, in the first place.....one step further is for them to pay for any vet bills you have incurred with this illness in Grim. I do remember someone on here had a similar situation happen...perhaps she will read this and come back and tell what she did....kennel cough is difficult to shake and he could be coughing from this for a long period of time.

Also, just because someone has been doing something for 30 years doesn't mean they are doing it right.

Hope he gets better soon & please insist on a personal carrier to return him to you.

Thanks All! Any suggestions on how I can approach the breeder for the vet info? I don't want to insult her by suggesting she might not be telling me the full story. My bf is suggesting for me to leave it alone and just hope for the best but I'd feel better with a health screening and the results in front of me! That's great that ur Calli has never had troubles with kc again.. You must have had a hard go of it since it lasted 3 months. That's quite a while! Has Calli had any other health problems? I just wonder if kc so early is indicative of an underlying health issue. It probably isn't but just out of curiosity. And the girl in the pic is of my friend Ashley! That pic was right after his first bath which she helped me with! He seemed to enjoy the warm water. Ohhh I miss him so much!

As far as vet records, I would just get your vets fax number and ask that she fax his records to your vet so you have a complete set of records. Or else just tell her you want all of his records to keep a file on him. That's what I do. Cali had many other problems but the KC was not a result of any of the other conditions. I just got her from a bad breeder. The KC lasted 3 months but was only bad for about 5 weeks then they would just cough a little at night.

Three months is NOT uncommon for Kennel cough....I have had my dogs come down with "upper respiratory infections"...vet wouldnt call it a case of kennel cough, but..... after receiving the drops they put in their noses for kennel cough, and after fighting for AT LEAST 3 months on several of my dogs, and tons of antibiotics, I do NOT get that vaccine anymore....but my dogs are not exposed to public places....it hasnt been an issue.

I'm sorry Calli has had some health issues. It seems common with these guys. I've owned other dogs throughout my childhood and I don't once recall either of my old dogs getting sick.. They were mixed breed though and much bigger then the average yorkie. Ive read many stories on the troubles yorkies can face and this is why his situation is worrying me. I knew yorkies were a higher maintenance breed but wasn't as aware of it as I am now!! They make up for it with their cuteness though.. There isn't a cuter breed in my opinion personality and looks. I am contemplating not getting Grim the kennel cough shot now. It feels too risky. I want him to be protected since my friends have dogs and he will be exposed to them, so it's really not a clear choice! I definitely don't want to infect him again possibly with the shot so I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there and get the opinion of my vet! I am just waiting for him to come back to me healthy and I will be so overjoyed!

Just tell her your vet would like copies of everything for your file there.

Get her vet's name # etc, and have your vet fax over a re question for (FULL) file.

This is typical, there should be NO ISSUE, if there is an issue-then there is something shady going on.

It is quite standard for vets to share records, just like Dr, furthermore especially with an issue like this I'm surprised your vet hasn't already told you to get the treating vet's information for file sharing.

It is expected the breeder would want your vet to send her vet the records as well-it's about treatment of the puppy (an honesty).
