| Liver Enzymes are through the roof! A week and half ago I posted a thread (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...g-surgery.html) about Jax. After vomiting blood we rushed him to an ER vet and after an xray showed abnormalities in his intestines they figured he had swallowed something and kept him over night. After a successful barium test they concluded it could be something he would pass. He never passed anything so they concluded that it was an intestinal infection and put him on antibiotics. After a week and half of continued lethargy and vomiting he was brought to the vet again this morning and after some tests they saw that his liver enzymes were through the roof. Highest "normal" levels of ATL are 250 and his levels were at 1,000. My mom then brought him to a specialist and they are running some tests now. My heart is breaking for my little guy. He's been through so much. I've done some research and there are so many things it could be that I just can't get myself to speculate anymore because, being the pessimist that I am, my mind just keeps going through all the worst case scenarios.

| Praying for your little one... It is not uncommon for ALT values to go way high.... I've seen over 2800 before and the dog recovered. Ususally means they ate something that is affecting the liver. Good thing to do is get him on Denamarin, a liver support med, till things are back to normal, and while they try to figure this out. The liver can and does regenerate itself. A dog can live with as little as 1/4 of a functioning liver, so don't lose hope just yet. Sending prayers...

| Just got an update from my mom. They say his liver is failing. They are keeping him overnight on an IV to help him feel better before the run anymore tests to see what is causing it.

| Did they put him on Denamarin? Tell your Mom to ask the vet, it will not interfere with anything they're doing for him. It may help him...

| My fiance and I made the hour drive to go see Jax yesterday. He's still a happy little guy but he just doesn't have the energy to show it... he's been eating a little bit. We asked the vet if we could try and feed him while we were there because he doesn't really eat much when separated from his people and they said okay and I got him to eat MAYBE a tablespoon of food off my fingers. Now today my parents made the visit. Still not much eating however his Bilirubin count is down with means this liver could be working again and an ultrasound showed his liver remains to be a normal size which is a good sign. He will remain in the hospital overnight on an IV so he can continue getting the nutrients he needs before they do a biopsy and run the needed tests. He has been giving 50/50 odds of making it through this so please please keep our baby in your thoughts and prayers Here is a picture I took of him yesterday while visiting.

| He is home and will be starting Denamarin once he begins to eat better. They have decided that since he showed enough improvment by theruputic measures he will not need a liver biopsy at this time but he has an recheck appointment next week for blood work to check for improvement.
