| Found out our little guy has Legg-Calve-Perthes today. I think I was in shock at the vet and the ortho is closed. Of course I'm thinking of tons questions now. How long was your pup at the surgeon - it's outpatient right? What was their recovery like? Did they walk right away? Do they need to be crated? And if you don't mind sharing...how much did you pay for the surgery? |

| First off, contact your breeder...this is a breeders worst nightmare and she needs to know about it. She also should accept responsibility for some part of this.... |

| So sorry to hear about your little guy! Our little guy, P-Nut (almost 11 months) was just diagnosed recently with bilateral LCP. His first surgery will be this Thursday, will let you know how it goes. He will be at the vet from 9am-5pm at least, then we'll be taking him home. Cost is about $1,200 for everything, including take-home meds. The doc will be giving us a discounted price on the next leg. We're in Silicon Valley, prices are high, and my research shows this is a very reasonable price for our area, plus the vet is incredible. Best wishes to you and your little one! |

| I don't know a whole lot about this condition, except what I've read here about others experiences. The pups all seem to do very well after surgery and recovery ![]() I wanted to wish you and your little man the very best for his upcoming surgery

| Well I've been calling around and I'm getting quotes of $2,400 - $3,000 and up to 2 nights stay. Ugh! |

| My Mylee had the FHO surgery for Hip Displasia. It's not the same disease as Legg-Calve-Perthes but in severe cases such as my Mylee, the treatment is the same with the FHO surgery. It is a relatively common surgery with usually favorable results especially for small dogs. We developed some complications and she had to have a second surgery, but that is extremely rare. Even still, our vet didn't give us much hope Mylee would ever use her leg due to the complications, but she's doing fantastic. She has a very slight hitch in her gait, but if you didn't know her well, you'd probably never even notice it. She is not limited on any activities. I know I have read several threads here where Yorkies have had this surgery also with favorable results. I would not recommend waiting, as I believe that did contribute to some of our complications. Recovery is approximately 6-8 weeks. Mylee stayed overnight on each surgery.

| I paid $2,400 for FHO on one of my personal pups recently....she had hip dysplasia. I have also had this surgery done on foster pups in the past...and it was somewhere around $2,000 I believe for each of them. As for the recovery, I did not crate them and they did amazingly well. They did stay overnight for one night after the surgery. You can find someone to do it cheaply, but be very, very careful. I know that some vets offer it for less than $1,000; but I met a lady at the specialist one day who went to a regular vet for this surgery and he cut the sciatic nerve on her pup. She was at the specialist looking for assistance...I never did hear the outcome but I imagine it was not good.

| One of my babies was just diagnosed with LPD. She goes in Monday for surgery. I feel so bad as she just had surgery in early August due to falling off my lap and breaking her radius/ulna. We had the external fixator for that removed the beginning of September and here we are again. This will be her third surgery (spay included) and she is not even a year old yet... I thank God that I have puppy insurance! If you haven't picked it up, you should as I am not sure what I would have done without it! With her leg in August, it was over $2,400 and I only paid about $400! With this surgery, it looks like I will be paying around $200. We leave exactly 2 weeks after her surgery for a week in Disney and I have to board them. This makes me a little nervous, but I the vet said the boarder I am using actually does PT for them and the boarder was okay with having her so soon after surgery. Please say a little prayer for Ms. Saydee that she feels better and that we do not have any more problems for a very long time... Amy Saydee & Sophie ![]() |

| Zoey had this surgery last year in Oct. I visited three surgeons. I was offered a total replacement at $5000 and was told that since she was so young (1 yr 8 mos) she would probably have to have another surgery in the future to replace the hip. I chose FHO and had an excellent ortho surgeon. He took her home to his house and kept her 5 days. She did so well that she came home earlier than normal. I paid $2800.00 and my insurance didn't pay since the vet said it was not caused from an accident. The rehab took 5 months. Starting with short walks extending the 5 minutes by one minute every day up to 30 minutes. Then after one month she started do "steps". This is a special ladder placed flat down and she steps over the rungs. Again, starting at two minutes going up to 25 minutes. Then the ladder is reversed and she had to step higher. As you can see this was like 5 months of rehab. She is doing great just like the surgeon said. You just have to build up the muscle in the leg that has the surgery. Good luck.
