My Mylee had the FHO surgery for Hip Displasia. It's not the same disease as Legg-Calve-Perthes but in severe cases such as my Mylee, the treatment is the same with the FHO surgery. It is a relatively common surgery with usually favorable results especially for small dogs. We developed some complications and she had to have a second surgery, but that is extremely rare. Even still, our vet didn't give us much hope Mylee would ever use her leg due to the complications, but she's doing fantastic. She has a very slight hitch in her gait, but if you didn't know her well, you'd probably never even notice it. She is not limited on any activities. I know I have read several threads here where Yorkies have had this surgery also with favorable results. I would not recommend waiting, as I believe that did contribute to some of our complications. Recovery is approximately 6-8 weeks. Mylee stayed overnight on each surgery.
