I hope with the coughing up of the treat the situation resolves and he is on the mend. Best wishes for his continued improvement.

He is doing so much better he's eating well running around playing and giving puppy kisses. I am continuing his medications he will be back at the vet in the morning to get checked out again. I feel terrible that the treat was stuck the whole time but relived that he is on the mend. I am just hoping there isn't any permanent damage.

I am sorry, but WHY did the vet do a barium study in such a small puppy! It is risky & they can aspirate, but then again, he wasn't vomiting. Your vet KNEW this. The obvious signs of a blockage is continuous vomiting & diarrhea...your puppy was showing none of these symptoms. Several x-rays? c'mon

Please think about changing your vet, he's more interested in your wallet!

I hope he'll feel better soon.

She actually administered by mixing it food because she was also afraid that he would aspirate it. And he did have diarhea and vomiting. I still felt the treat was stuck in there but it did not show up on the x-rays and he was there for 2 days being monitered and stabilzed. I'm just surprised they didn't see the same things I was seeing.

Although I wish the vet would have caught it and he didn't have to suffer the way he did.I am just happy that he got the treat out and is getting back to being himself which by the way is a complete sweetheart.

Thank You for the explanation...it is very difficult when you know he swallowed something but it doesn't show on the x-ray. Something like this happened to my Momo when he was 7 months old (he swallowed a queen palm seed while eating the fruit) & he had to suffer for a week while the emergency vet tried all sorts of meds & endoscopy (2x's) bc the x-ray showed nothing. He finally felt it lodged on the entrance of the small intestine on day 7 & Momo had surgery to remove the seed. Had he had surgery when we 1st got there, he wouldn't have had to suffer for 7 days & end up w/multiple severe ulcers in his stomach from the seed. The vet talked me out of it every time I said to go in & get the seed out, I am sure he swallowed it...he would suggest other things, like anti vomit meds; the next day, endoscopy- saw nothing, so we'll try this other med; on & on. It drained my spirits & savings acct @ $1000/a day. You can see why I'm a lot leery of vets taking advantage.
Sorry for my long rant! I hope your fur baby has a speedy recovery.

I know how that one goes...it doesn't seem fair to have to pay for someone's incompetance.

We are continuing his antibiotics just to make sure but I really don't belive that he ever had aspirating pneumonia. I still want to make sure he doesn't get any infection from having a foreign object lodged in his little body. He seriously is 360° different dog than he was just a few days ago. The vet didn't think she needed to see him today but was really surprised that it came up almost like she didn't belive me. It was a little strange. I have had a really positive repor with her in all past experiences so I don't think she is all about the money she really has been one of the best I have had the experience of working with. She really is wonderful with animals. Also it a pretty big clinic and several other vets looked at the x-rays and could not see any obstructions. She did say that certain things just do not show up on x-rays depending on what they are made of. Thank goodness he was able to get it out on his own because he is so tiny she was concerned about doing surgery which he would have had if they would have seen it. So blessing in disguise I don't know maybe it was mayne not?
