HA, I guess I'm full of tips today...

I mix up the chemical in used plastic 1 gal Milk Jugs, and then use a spritz/sprayer to squirt it in those hard to get to places like where Spiders nest. It's also good for spraying a little into your outside Plant Water Dish's, to prevent Mosquitoes from hatching. This way you can focus the chemical, and not spray a large area. I like to have a few bugs around for the Birds

CAUTION !
Both of those chemicals mix up to a white fluid !
Mark the container well, it looks just like Milk !

Just want to say three cheers for the vet's office that called the cone cruel! It is natural for an animals to lick a wound and it counter to nature for an animal to rip it's self apart after surgery.

As already suggested there is always the option of the onsie or there are soft post surgery collars available as well. There is a YT member that makes and sells very cute soft post surgical collars. Soft post surgical collars are also available online in various sizes but not nearly as cute as the ones sold by the YT member. I hope others who are planning on having their pets spayed or neutered in the future will consider buying either the onsie or soft collar ahead of time if they feel their pet would be licking too much.

It really irks me that vets don't discuss these options with you ahead of time, so you are prepared, most dogs lick and I think most are really freaked out by the cone. I just assumed the cone would be Ok but it turned out for Lola it was more disturbing wearing the collar than the surgery was, she would just stand in the corner for hours if I let her. I don't know why she did this, she reminded me of a little dunce, with her head hanging down in the corner facing the wall. I felt so bad I hardly left the house, when I could not find a small enough onsie, I mocked one up, I had a tee shirt I had bought for her so I tucked that in a dog diaper and ducked taped it at the center, (LOL I can't believe I did not take any pictures) but that became a pain because each time I would have to take her potty I would have to use a new diaper and duck tape her back together. I even bought and expensive doll that was wearing one to see if that would fit. I did not know about yorkie talk at the time so really had no place to get advice and all my friends had big dogs. I think if I sewed and wanted to start a business that is what I would do, contact vets in my area and start trying to sell them onesies instead of the cone.

Yes, I am so thankful for my vet's office telling me about the onesie vs the cone (however, it would've been nice if they'd told me that when they gave me all the other pre-op instructions so I was prepared lol). I couldn't really find what I was looking for, but I got Mandie a t-shirt that is sort of long compared to her other ones. It doesn't stop her from licking if she really has to but it deters it, I think.

I love the tshirt, btw! It says: "I'm single if you're rich" HA!

Yes, she is doing really well. Her daddy was with her all day today so that helped. He said she slept most of the day, but she did go outside a couple of times and she peed and pooped (she's struggling with that like she's constipated but I think it's the pressure on her wound when she pushes instead of constipation).

She's laying back down now, but she ate a good meal when I got home from work. I drizzled some chicken broth over her regular kibble and she ate it pretty well. She's spoiled already though...she likes me to give her water with a dropper (like I did last night) instead of drinking from her bowl. She will drink from her bowl but LOVES the dropper lol

Oh, poor little Mandie!! I'm just now seeing this...I had my own thread a week or two ago when my baby Luma got stung on the TONGUE by a wasp and had a horrible allergic reaction. Scariest moment of my whole life...I thought I was going to lose her.

Luma also became "unhousetrained" and it is a side effect of the steroids. I wish you the best and hope she recovers from her spay fantastically. So much to go through all at once! Poor thing. Give her a loving hug from Luma and I. You're a great mommy for taking her in and getting those stingers out. I can't imagine TWO stings

I am glad she is doing better. Maybe suggest to the vet that they add the info about onesies to their pre op paper work.

Make sure you pour the chemicals on the nest at night. That way all the yellow jackets are back in the nest. Make sure you pour enough, it has to saturate the paper nest. Some nests can be large. Also be careful, because they will be aggressive and come after you. A lot of people hire an exterminator to get rid of them. The smart thing. Once the nest is killed. It needs to be dug up. We had a nest and my DBF is a bee keeper. His crazy butt goes out at night with the chemicals and the lawn mower. . . Yes you know where I am going. . . He starts lawn mower and pours the liquid on top of the nest. Then quickly puts the mower on top of the nest. Any that come up get squished. I am not recommending this!!

I'm sure they are quite aware that there is an alternative to the plastic sheets that they choose to subject their clients to. They range from very low priced to a bit more pricey. I'm sure most pet owners would rather have a comfortable option for their pet that has just been through the stress of surgery. They come in a wide variety of sizes.

Oh my! LOL! I would rather hire an exterminator but I'm very low on funds right now. I did the tarp thing last night. However, I realized this morning that there is another hive on the other side of our yard...have to find it now. Not sure if it's in ground or in a tree. Also, I'll mention that to the vet..it's a good idea.

To be honest, this was another reason that I was content with just going with a t-shirt. I suppose you could use a puppy diaper under the onesie if needed..?

Oh wow - I'm so sorry for what Luma went thru! (and what you went thru!) I missed that thread. I didn't realize the steroid played a role in her un-housetraining. I figured it was just the trauma. That's good info to know. I will definitely give Mandie an extra hug from you both - Thank you!

Mandie seems to be almost back to her crazy self today. She doesn't seem so "skiddish" about going outside on the grass now. And, I keep having to separate her and her brother because she wants to rough house.

QUESTION: Has anyone experienced this and what did you do?

She goes to poo and even though she HAS (even just this morning), there are times that she will squat and then jump up before she poos and yelp. I know it's hurting her but is it because of the pressure on the wound when she pushes to poo or should I be looking at something else? Again, she's poo'd (once this morning and 2 times yesterday) so she's not NOT going..just sometimes seems like she can't and it hurts
