| ![]() Tossing in my two cents . . . so glad your baby is home and doing well. Buddy loves corn on the cob and would eat the whole thing if given the chance. So, this is a better lesson learned second-hand. ![]() Again, I'm so glad your baby is better and home again. |

| ![]() Thanks again everyone for your care and concern. I think Vivi is now back to 100% again. She does circle when we are putting trash in the can and I think she would eat a corn cob all over again if she had a chance. Ahhh! She might not have learned, but we did. (Even though we have always been careful, we are now extremely cautious.) The ER Vet did tell me that we were very lucky with Vivi and her corn cob eating. She said she had worked with dogs in the ER that had eaten corn cobs, and things did not turn out so well. We are thankful that she did not have to have surgery for an obstruction or get pancreatitis. Both of these seem to be fairly common results from gnawing on corn cobs. (Thankfully, two and a half days of fluids in the ER cured the problem.) Anyway, your prayers are much appreciated. Also, who knows? Maybe this thread can be of help to someone with the same emergency someday.

| ![]() Lisa, I am so happy Vivi is ok. I am also grateful that you have shared the danger of corn cobs with the rest of us. It has been a very scary and expensive lesson for you, and hopefully will save others from going through the same thing. I had no idea they could be harmful. Hugs to all.

| ![]() It's good that you have posted about your incident with Vivi. I would have never known that corn on the cob could be such a problem. I'm so glad Vivi is back to her old self. I guess you'll have to keep a close watch on her now. Have you considered getting a trash can with a lid? We got a stainless steel one from Bed Bath & Beyond. It's great and the pups don't bother with it at all. You have to be so relieved now. Our prayers have been answered. ![]()

| ![]() Just think of the old days how dogs of all sizes were fed corn cobs and all kinds of leftovers and extra's from the family kitchen! Wonder how many small dogs obstructed and died from things like this.

| ![]() So glad Vivi is ok. My grandog, a 9 lb. italian greyhound ate a corn cob that my grandaughter accidently left unattended. Poor Mojo had to have his stomach opened up to get out the corn cob contents as it wouldn't pass thru his intestines. He was not so lucky, it cost my daughter $3000 for emergency surgery for him, but a lesson was learned. He's fine now but he had stitches from his ribs to his you know what ! Please keep corn cobs away from your furbabies, they can become deadly to them if they get caught in their intestines, they can die, as was almost the case with my grandog.

When the ER Vet showed me the first set of xrays for Vivi, it looked blocked and I thought she was also going to have to have the surgery. We were really lucky that the cob was able to pass in the days she was in the ER being given fluids. How is little Mojo now?
