This is a very generous offer, OP...one that you should give some very serious consideration to...I can NOT get past a vet offering amputation for financial alternative....my mind just wont go there! You need someone that knows what they are doing, tell you exactly what the problem is, and sensible options for making it right. And here is another thought....MAYBE since ladyjane is obviously concerned about this enough to pay for your evaluation, he MAY consider doing the procedure at a reasonable price, or at least allow you some kind of payment plan.....(DONT MISUNDERSTAND ME...DONT PUT LADYJANE ON THE HOOK FOR "STANDING GOOD" for the payment, but I am saying maybe just because she is well known to him, he may be more apt to help you with payments). If not, you can always go back to your vet with the information you have gotten from Dr.Beale, and maybe your vet will take up the slack. (At least, if Dr.Beale tells you this leg needs to go, you can know in your soul it was indeed, best course of action, and not an option thrown out perhaps in frustration of any financial complications.)

I know for a fact they will not work out a payment plan with her. That is not going to happen! They do accept Care Credit and it is not that hard to get.
BUT...yes, she will know exactly what is needed...that is important! This puppy needs to be handled correctly. She has a long life ahead of her.

Oh, I just had another idea.... Texas A & M at College Station! They will give you an estimate and you have to pay 50% of that before they do the surgery. When the pup is discharged, they will make a 6 month payment arrangement for the balance! This is only for hosptitalized pups...and she would be hospitalized for that.
But, they are also not inexpensive. You could call there for an estimate once you know exactly what needs to be done.

I feel so bad for this pup, as well as the owner....Years ago, I have been in a financial position where $100.00 could just have easily been $10,000.00....that is when stuff comes off the walls and out of the jewelry box and hits the pawn shop...(Gold is great now...you can get quite a bit for old broken bracelets and earrings and even rings, ankle bracelets, etc)..........thank God it was not money I needed to provide health care to a child or pet. I hope you can find someone to work with you on a monthly payment plan....see if your vet is less expensive than what A&M would charge for the procedure....if he will work with you great....if he wont, A&M is a great option and they are fabulous...I have a beaten path to A&M...Since Dr.Beale wont work with a payment plan, having the procedure done there is probably off the table for you. Let us know what you decide to do...

Yes, but Dr. Beale can at least guide her as far as WHAT needs to be done. Sadly, I have seen some real botch jobs in this area all in the name of doing something cheaper. She needs to know exactly what needs to be done so she can be an informed "shopper".

OP I forgot this so I'll share, some of my dogs have had very expensive medical issues.

Personally I had only $500 saved for medical care, it was depleted in a week.

I tapped out 2 bank cards abd my new vehicle fund.

Luckily I had an engangement ring I kept, I sold it.

3 designer purses eBayed.

I couldn't afford the medical care so I dug deep and got in debt.

Was it worth it...absolutely.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to things to hock, but where theres a will you'll find a way.

It may be worth going to other vets and begging if you have to bring a credit report to the office if you have to...

That is really a super great offer.

I agree that I'd have a terribly hard time amputating a leg that does not NEED to be amputated.

If I literally had NO other options, I would, but I would scrounge up the money somehow. I agree where there's a will there's a way.

I had the option of having Jackson's canine tooth pulled when it was poking him in his gums, but did not even want to do that since it's such a major tooth, so I opted to pay $1200 instead to have it filed down, filled, etc. Believe me, it was a huge hit on my wallet, but I just did not want it pulled if it didn't have to be.

So I definitely can't imaging giving the go ahead on amputation.

Yep, I would definitely be begging if I had no other option. I would even offer to scrub the vet's floors...anything!

I am not rolling in money...and I have had to scrape a lot lately for my pups. To me it is all about priorities and we have to sometimes get very creative. FOr me it has been one of those years where things just went wrong all at once...started with my George with the salivary gland that had to be removed...then Cookie with her awful diagnosis of lymphangectasia and Adina with hip surgery. Thousands of dollars...and that is only part of it.

If I had it to do over, every single one of my pups would have insurance.
OP: you might want to get insurance anyway...you just never know when something else can come up!

Im with Ellie May on this because only you know what your able to do. I would explore all other options, sell things do whatever I had to do before I would amputate but if it were that option or rescue or put down I would chose amputation. Its not ideal but many animals get along just fine with 3 legs

And anyone on here can guarantee you, it isnt "if", it is "when" something else will come up!. I dont have pet insurance...it isnt available to breeders....but I have insurance in every other aspect of my life...and if I could have pet insurance, I would certainly have it. Or I would start putting money in a sock each month, for future vet bills....
