| btw....was thinking to discontinue the prednesone while giving her the liver drugs....since the steroids are suppose to be hard on the liver anyway. she is now on Deosyl ,lactolose and a antibacterial liquid that is suppose to neutralize ammonia producing stuff in here intestinal tract. |

| YT 2000 Club Donating Member | http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...vet-bills.html Here is some infor on help for vet bills. I'm so sorry your young dog is unwell. I like others who have posted, can only urge you to go to a 'vet school hospital" or a fully staffed emergency care hospital. Liver Shunt has several different presentations. Only one of which is possible to treat through diet and meds. You mentioned blood work came back normal. Did they actually do a BATS test? Even with a BATS done, further testing is usually necessary to indentify specifically what is going on with the liver. If you can't afford to treat her, then please either surrender her to a rescue of make the supremely hard decision to PTS.

| thank you for the information, not sure about the initial blood test but know the blood they drew a few hours ago was being sent for a full work up. Hopefully it will provide some answers. I appreciate everyones concern, although everyone might disagree with my methods to determine whats wrong with my dog, its the one I am most comfortable with. I think we will know in the next few hours what the new blood test show and will probably know by morning if the anti ammonia meds are having an effect. I would have liked things to have proceeded more quickly but her lack of many common symptoms made it hard to diagnose, the pacing and vision degradation was all we had...the drool thing did not show up til a few days later, no vomiting no diarrhea no fever and basic blood work all showed normal....we noted that until she got real bad the casual observer might not even think anything was wrong, the vet actually thought she was recovering, but of she is our dog so we knew she was not right |

| That all sounds very scary, I'm sorry I hope your baby will be allright, though I'd be changing vets if this was my little one. $1,000 just for basic exams and bloodwork, and they continue to let her suffer like this? Insane!!!!!! If you cannot afford to properly care for her, please consider surrendering her to a rescue. Continuing to let this vet guess at it is not going to help her. Liver Shunt should have been the first thought he had and immediate testing and treatment begun. I hope she'll be okay.

| I hope you find out what's wrong with your baby. We recently had a freaky thing happen with our baby girl and we ended up at a vet college and saw a neurologist there. We were very pleased with the treatment we received and our baby girl (Actually she's 5) is 99.9% better. I'm keeping your baby in my thoughts and prayers!!! Not knowing what's wrong was so hard for us. I hope you get some answers soon!!!

| If liver was only slightly off it could be a Chiari malformation & she will need an MRI to detect it. Chiari is most often diagnosed between the ages of 2 yrs & 6 yrs with the majority around 2 yrs old. If you stop the Pred & symptoms worsen give the pred ASAP & get her to a Neuro or Teaching hosp for an MRI. Have they done X-ray of the neck yet ? if not I would talk to your vet about it as she could have AAI. FYI, AAI & Chiari can throw off the liver enzymes & cause vision problems but with treatment both will will return to normal. These are life threatening issues so prompt & proper treatment are a must . I will be praying for your baby. |

| At a loss for words but am praying for this little one that you will be able to help her. I understand how hard it is to see them suffer but if we cannot afford to help them then it is best we let someone who can take over. God Bless.

| Did uou consider this being seizures? Sounds like you need a neurology consult and to video the episodes. Why are you testing various drugs for various illnesses not diagnosed...its late please correct me if I missed something here , I'm just not following at all.

| I am so sorry that your baby is suffering, and I truly hope you are able to find the answers as to what is going on with her!! I am by no means trying to diagnose your little girl,bc I am certainly not qualified. However, I definitely agree that I would get her to a neurologist at the closest vet school as soon as possible. Her symptoms do sound neurological. Additionally, there are some different eye infections that can be extremely aggressive in dogs, but obviously this wouldn't account for the drooling. I had a VERY similar experience with my last dog Riley ( he wasn't a yorkie.. he was a tiny poodle names Riley). In our case, I did initially rush him to his vet late on a Sunday night bc his onset was sudden and severe..he couldn't walk in a straight line..he curved severely to the left... he initially didn't use the baseboards and have such severe vision loss, it started out that night with his eyes looking inflamed and irritated. However, in his case, his vet's original diagnosis was way off. Nothing showed up on any of his blood work or in any testing she did. So, she thought this was his first seizure. She took him home with her that night and monitored him the next day. To make a long story shorter, they thought he was all better and could go home. I expected he was better as they said, but when I got there and saw him, I KNEW that regardless of what anyone was telling me, there was something horribly horribly wrong! I ultimately insisted that he was in much pain, and I requested to please get him in to the vet school ASAP. Ultimately every single test came back normal until the very last test which was the MRI. That test made the cause of his problem quite apparent. He had a large amount of fluid on his brain, and the pressure was causing the obvious neurological issue. In his case, his vision loss followed his initial neurological issues. Again, I realize that your baby could have something altogether different going on. I am only telling you this bc everything initially was coming back just fine, but meanwhile, permanent damage was being done and he was truly suffering with the pain and pressure of the fluid on his brain. And in his case, urgent treatment was his only chance at possible survival. But if I were in your shoes, I would want to get to a vet school so that both a neurologist and an eye specialist could be seen. I hate that your baby is going through this, and I truly hope that you can find the root of the problem. I am keeping you and your baby in my prayers!!! | I know this may sound stupid or I missed something, but could it be an eye problem such as cataracts or glaucoma? There were eye drops given for some reason. These things can be disturbing to a dog and glaucoma causes bad headaches and pain. But I am sure the regular Vet looked and tested for such things. Good Luck with your baby, I can sure understand how concerned you are for her. Lets hope she is diagnosed and treated, and gets well soon. Sorry if my post is a red herring, but just a thought. |
