| Help Charm not acting like Charm no energy My little Charm hasn't been herself for a little over a month now, not playing, not eating like she use to, she acts depressed and has no energy. I taken her into the vet office 3 times already this month. The first time was because of vomiting and no energy. I thought she may have eaten another ear plug of my husbands because we are missing one. She done this in the past and pass them fine but this time it was a different kind not soft form type but a harder plastic type that were on a cord. We keep her inside so she could only go on the pee pad and never saw one in her stool. The vet did an x-ray, blood work, and she had a little temp. Nothing showed on the x-ray but a lot of gas, her white count was a little above normal so we given Clavamox, some orange liquid I can not read his writing for the vomiting and told to give her a 1/4 of a pepsid. I took her back the next week and he gave her more Clavamox because the vomiting was less but she still wasn't well and back to herself he thought she looked better. Today I took her back and insisted he do something she has changed into a depressed unhappy dog and she vomited again last night. I'm waiting for him to call me back this evening. He did 2 more x-rays and a complete blood panel this time, she had a temp again and he could tell this time after a long discussion that she is not acting like herself. I'm worried to death what it could be. He said he wanted me to try and get a pee sample they tried their but she didn't have to go. He gave her a antibiotic shot and a stronger med called Baytril. She has lost 12 oz this month and is now only 4lbs. He said the plug may be in her just floating around because she does poo just fine. |

| I know it reminds me of when my children was babies and couldn't tell me. I just know her personally of being a lively, playful 2 year dog disappeared she just lay their and sleeps. She won't even jump up onto my legs for me to pick her up anymore, and turns away from playing with my other girls and goes off in a corner. She also get the shakes like she is shivering a lot now. |

| I am sorry....lets cut to the chase....feeling poorly for over a month....loosing weight....depressed....lethargic.....slightly elevated white count....bowel with gas.....vomiting again...missing hard plastic ear plug with ???! cord attached??!!!.....If he can not give you something definitive this evening, I would be loading my baby up and going to a vet school. A month is too long, in MY opinion, to be pitzing around, guessing this, maybe that, not real sure, .....and meanwhile, back at the ranch, the baby is not feeling well and is now loosing weight. There is SOMETHING wrong....."plug just floating around"????? No, lets start ruling stuff out....if that hard plastic plug in in her gut, it WILL show up on xray.....and it could be a partial bowel obstruction where she can still have small, soft BMs around that plug......if he does an abdominal series and does not see a plug, then we need to move on to something else....but that plug CAN NOT JUST "FLOAT AROUND" and not be cause for concern!!! If you do not find the plug on xray, that is not the problem....move on to plan B. You need some answers, either from this vet or someone else. I will allow these people to jerk me around by a chain for just so long, then I want answers.....these little dogs dont have a lot in reserve, that allows us to play around, guessing and supposing! Good luck with your baby...you keep on them until you get some answers...something definitive....or go for another opinion! You dont want to wait until you are in an emergent situation with this baby. |

| I'm sorry I must not have explained it right because my post was so long I tried to shorten it some we have the part of the ear plug with the cord portion only one end of the plug part was missing and I have 4 dogs and I don't know if she ate it or not just that one came up missing. It was 3 days after the plug went missing that she started feeling unwell or it may be or not related. It could be from something else we just don't know. The vet did take 2 more x-rays today one from the top view this time which showed nothing. My vet also said he didn't want to set up anymore test until he gets the blood work back later today because it will give us more answer in which direction we should go in. He also said she may have to have a barium GI x-ray, and possibly could have to have exploratory surgery because something could be floating around somewhere in their was how he said it when he was examining her. He also said it could be a liver problems. I've had the same vet for over 25 years now and he very caring. He is very concerned and said it was good she was still eating a little and that she is not dehydrated but he couldn't give me any answers yet. I'm going to wait until I hear from him this evening with the results. I don't get any answers I'll ask him to recommend a specialist or to order whatever test are needed I will not take any chance on my baby health. Right now I am just waiting to hear back from him. |

| I understand your frustration dear...i am going thru similar probs...my "baby" has been short of breathe, laying around and just not herself either...i took her to my vet and he did adiabetes test, sonogram, bloodwork and thyroid test...so far evrything is ok except she has an enlarged spleen! Her spleen is VERY large (almost twice the normal size!) So we are trying to figure out what is causing her spleen to enlarge (which is serious in itself) This is really scaring me cuz she only just turned 4yrs old Also she is gaining weigh all the time even tho she does NOT overeat...I hate this testing period...it seems like forever when you wait for results. Keep us posted on your 'lil one and she is in my prayers dear

| I'm sorry that your baby is suffering, as are you I went through this same thing with my first Yorkie, Starr. She had all the same symptoms, same meds, xrays, all that, a whole week of vet visits trying to figure out what was wrong. Xrays showed nothing. Then the vet did a barium series on her and found the blockage. I went home and searched the house that day and found pieces of a colored pencil that she had chewed up and must have eaten some pieces of. Told the vet and he said no wonder it didn't show up, a regular lead pencil would have though, because of the lead in it(metal). So that's probably why there's nothing on your darling's xrays, the earplug was plastic and that won't show up on a regular xray. The movement, or lack of movement, of the barium will help the vet to see a blockage if there is one. I hope that your little one is all better very very soon. Please keep us posted
