| Excessives panting, possible fever Sorry if this is somehow the wrong place to post, I'm using an iPod Touch and it's a tad difficult to navigate with this. My Yorkie, Sophie, just turned 11 on April fools day. When she was 9 she had her uterus removed due to an awful infection, she has an enlarged heart, lots of issues. She's a strong little lady. The issue is she's panting excessively. Last night my father got arrested, my dog clearly got stressed since she began to pant heavily. Before I get the comment; SHE CANNOT BE TAKEN TO THE VET. My mother and I are both disabled, my father was our source of income. We have no money, no car, we can't drive, we have no cell phone, no home phone, barely any food and only a little time left for our Internet. After the police came, Sophie was panting heavily and would not stop. Her body was very warm, so I offered her some water and dripped a little water on her; she ended up stopping. She also has a possible UTI...she's swollen and cries if she's touched there ( we cleaned her privates today ). The next day ( today ) she was still panting. She'll pant heavily, slowly, stop, repeat. She's now laying next to me getting her belly rubbed, still panting. Her body is very warm. Her ears are very warm, she's warmer than usual. I'm terrified to lose her and I have no idea what to do... Does anyone have any advice? I'm also sorry if I'm not making too much sense, I'm overwhelmed... We also do not have a thermometer, so I can't take her temperature. |

| With her conditions, she needs to see a vet. The vet that she was seeing before, do you still use him? A lot of time with regular clients my vet will work out arrangements with you. You need to call and see if that is a possibility. Honestly, IMHO that is your only option because she really needs to be seen. If I understand correctly, the panting can have something to do with the heart if it is not heat related.

| She needs a vet and YOU need to reach out to someone who will get her there. Hopefully there is someone who will take her off your hands since you won't be able to care for her properly. Does anybody know of a rescue she can call that will help right away? |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Okay you posted in right spot: Here is some infor on help for vet bills:http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/eme...vet-bills.html Do you have a neighbour you can look to for help? If you are both disabled - you will need more help than just for your dog. Call your regular vet; plead for help; this is not the time to for pride at all. Next : if you are not on Social Assistance or what-ever you call it in the States; make a phone call (borrow your neighbours phone) to start the ball rolling with Social Assistance. Maybe some of our members here; know the numb er in Maine you can call. For your gal; If the panting is associated with Chronic Congestive HEart failure, the best you can do at the moment; beyond getting in touch with your vet; Keep her chest elevated: you can hold her on your lap with her back against your and her head resting on your chest. Keep her coolish: Make sure she drinks and eats a very little 3 or more times a day. Here is a link for Emergency First Aid for Dogs. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/eme...g-dosages.html

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | And you really do need a phone..... Get to a neighbour somehow. If you stay on the internet' we might be able to find a member who is in rescue; that might be able to intervene and help your dog out.

| You are all so kind! I wasn't expecting such heartfelt comments for this newcomer! She is okay now! I'm sorry for the late response; I was unable to get on the internet. She got help and she was too stressed out and overheated for her own good, the poor dear. She's well and today she was even hopping around being the old lady that she is. Thank you again, it's nice to know there are such kind people around who are willing to help out a stranger. |
