| What do you think? First of all, I want to start out by saying that if anyone thinks their dog should go to the vet, then they probably should. My Brutus started licking his underside on Sat evening - exactly where his testicals were. He was neutered the day after Thanksgiving. When I say licking, it was excessive and constant. When I looked to see what he could be licking at, I noticed a small blister/cyst/pimple type of shape with no redness. I thought it could be a little bug bite as we had been in the yard almost all day on Sat. Long story short, he continued this behavior yesterday and this am it looked red - I wasn't sure if it was getting worse or if his licking caused the redness. Called the vet first thing, and sure enough, he has an infection from his neuter. Wow, I mean, it's been months since the procedure - shouldn't he have been totally healed by now? Anyway, he is on meds twice a day for the next 20 days. The vet even opened the sore up to make sure they hadn't left anything (?) in there during the procedure. I have never heard of anything like this - but I am glad that I took him before it turned into something really ugly.

| It sounds as though he may have had a reaction to the dissolvable inside sutures. |

| Wow, that is definitely odd. I'm glad you took him in and got everything figured out. I know I've had problems with the stitches that supposedly dissolve. I had one that didn't dissolve for months, and had to have the doctor pull it out.

| Poor Brutus! Sending best wishes for him to heal quickly. You are a good mom for taking him in to see the vet. I never knew that something like this could happen so long after being neutered.

| That is crazy! Glad you took him in before it got any worse. Something similar happened to Riley. He didn't start bothering his stitches until about little over 1 month later. He had internal dissolvable ones. He started licking nonstop and the site started getting red and I could see part of a stitch poking through. The vet said he was having a reaction to the stitches and his body was trying to push them Out. He made a little slit and pulled the remaining stitches out. After that, he healed right up. |

| I agree with lillymae. If he had the internal stitches, that is...

| Update The meds don't agree with Brutey's sensitive belly. After the first pill he vomited 4 times. I gave him that pill with dinner. I then tried a different approach and gave him his second pill about 30 min after breakfast so he would have a full belly, but no luck - came right back up as well. I called the vet to let them know and I am picking up another liquid med. to try. Keep your fingers crossed that he can handle this one.

Btw, the stitches thing kind of happened w/ my Pfeiffer too. She had a little area for quite a while post-spay, it felt kind like a hard nodule/area. It didn't look infected, so the vet suggested to wait a little longer...and sure enough, it went away.
