First of all, I want to start out by saying that if anyone thinks their dog should go to the vet, then they probably should. My Brutus started licking his underside on Sat evening - exactly where his testicals were. He was neutered the day after Thanksgiving. When I say licking, it was excessive and constant. When I looked to see what he could be licking at, I noticed a small blister/cyst/pimple type of shape with no redness. I thought it could be a little bug bite as we had been in the yard almost all day on Sat. Long story short, he continued this behavior yesterday and this am it looked red - I wasn't sure if it was getting worse or if his licking caused the redness. Called the vet first thing, and sure enough, he has an infection from his neuter. Wow, I mean, it's been months since the procedure - shouldn't he have been totally healed by now? Anyway, he is on meds twice a day for the next 20 days. The vet even opened the sore up to make sure they hadn't left anything (?) in there during the procedure. I have never heard of anything like this - but I am glad that I took him before it turned into something really ugly.
