| Head Trauma. Is there any rescues or anyone else that has experience with head trauma in a Yorkie? I"m picking up a Yorkie about 5 pounds that they think was clipped by a car. She's currently at the vet hospital, where they stabilized her. She was brought in on Tuesday by a good Samaritan. Iniially when brought in she had bleeding from her nostil and appeared to be paralized and low pressure. They took x rays to make sure nothing was broken, gave her meds for the head injury I would imagin to prevent swelling and fluids through and IV. Three days later she is doing better. She is able to walk but wobbly, but if she does fall she cannot get up again without help. My observations while there was she has some heavy or labored breathing (Not terrible but present) looking under her eye lids, the whites are very blood shot and she seems to me to still have some shock an is tired. If no one steps up to claim her, I will pick her up on Monday to avoid having her sent to the shelter and I will take her to my vet for an evaluation. Just wondering if anyone here has dealt with a rescue that came in like this or their own dog and if so any advice on this being normal or more going on and or advice as to how to help her when she's home. The vet said she will probably need about six weeks of cage rest. Hubby and I are just trying to help a dog out that has no one to speak for it. He's been a good egg through it, driving me almost two hours to see her and bring her stuff and donating money to her vet care there. Any info or advice would be appreciated. I've had rescues that were ill, just never dealt with a head injury. Thanks. Elaine |

| Sometimes they continue to improve. There was one in this area that was hit by a car on Christmas Eve. He had the same symptoms and is ok now. Of course that is not etched in stone and a guarantee as this one could be more severe. I would think that a neurologist is in order. Have you thought about contacting a rescue since she may have some very high vet bills and they could fund raise?

| I just got off the phone with Heidi from Rescue 911 who was wonderful and they are going to work with her with me. So right now as it stands still no one has come forward and I called today to see how she was and they said she is doing good. If still no one comes forward the hold is up Monday and I was told I can then pick her up and take her home with me and we will go from there. Please keep this little girl in your prayers. |

| Did they scan her for a microchip? The heavy/labored breathing would concern me as a ruptured diaphram is very common in HBC victims (at least bigger dogs, but could happen). Maybe a low concentration of oxygen would help her. Head injuries can improve dramatically, but it does take time. I would make sure they understand to do everything possible for her, and not be treating her as a stray. Adding her to my prayer list...

| Update!! Hi, just wanted to give you all an update on little Gianna (the name one of the Yorkie loving woman that works there gave her). I called this morning and She is out of ICU, doing GREAT, eating on her own and a little more perky. No surprise, but no one has come forward so I will be going to pick her up tomorrow. Will call in the morning to make sure there were no last minute calls. I have to go early, because I have work at 4pm. Hubby is home at night and my two teen boys will be too so she won't be alone while I'm working and I only work until 10pm (Six hours). Please, continue to keep this little girl in your prayers, as all your good vibes must be working. I'm told she is very very sweet with everyone and every thing. On an off note, because she is so skinny and was full of fleas I gave the possibility that she may have been on her own for awhile and searched Petfinder yesterday for any lost Yorkies in that area, going as far back as September in which I found a little female (no picture). I emailed them to see if they had found their dog, although it was quite a distance from where they live and have not heard anything back. Also keep scanning Craig's list as well as the North Jersey Newspapers. I do not want anyone to be missing their Yorkie that may have really loved her. |
