| my dog ziggy is sick. Hello, I found this forum while searching the internet trying to find out what may be wrong with my dog ziggy. She is a 2.5 year old yorkie. She started acting funny recently. She would sit down randomly or turn out around to look at her rear end. She is lethargic and doesn't want to move off the bed or couch. She won't go outside for walks and if I can get her outside she will go bathroom quickly and then run back inside. She usually loves being outside. She has also scooted a couple of times. When she walks, she will bend her back legs down and kind of walk low to the ground. So following these symptoms I took her to the vet thinking maybe her anal glands were giving her problems. But the vet checked and nothing was wrong there. She felt her back legs and then did blood work. I also gave them a urine sample. None of the tests are back yet but I am wondering if anyone may have any ideas on what is wrong with ziggy. She doesn't appear to be in pain unless she is walking...then she seems very uncomfortable. I am thinking maybe a urinary tract infection but I don't know. The vet gave her some antibiotics via an injection (convenia) so perhaps that will kick in. In the meantime, I wish I knew what was wrong. The vet said to call if she gets worse and to plan to take her in to the vets in a week if she doesn't improve. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks so much! |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk. I'm sorry your girl is going through this. It's frustrating when you don't know exactly what is wrong, and I hope the tests will give you answers. Did the doctor indicate what the antibiotic injection was for?

| TY! Thanks for the welcome! I actually forgot to mention that ziggy had a fever. They were not sure if it was b/c ziggy was all worked up and nervous due to being at the vet's or if it may have been due to infection. so they gave antibiotics just in case. I hate seeing my normally active dog so lethargic. |

| I am so sorry your Ziggy is not feeling well. My Piccolo went through months of being lethargic, about 4 years ago. I knew things were not right and took her to the vet week after week. Finally, things were figured out, after going to a specialist. I know it is frustrating when the lethargy is the biggest symptom, but it does mean something, so keep being persistant. I will keep you and Ziggy in my thoughts and prayers.

| Thank you all so much. My vet is going to call me with the results of the tests. I think early this week. I'm very anxious. It's difficult to know somerhing is wrong but have vague symptoms. But they seem to be taking it seriously. Ziggy has been eating and drinking well so that is good. I hope they call me soon. Thanks again. |

| results Hello again! I wanted to update on ziggy. She is still not herself...however she is getting some pep back. She isn't as lethargic as before and will even go outside for short walks. I am hoping the antibiotics that they gave her are working. They told me her blood work came back mostly normal but that ziggy has a slightly low potassium level. They didnt think it was anything to be too concerned about since all her other tests were normal. She also has some white blood cells in her urine (though no bacteria were found) so it could be a UTI. I noticed ziggy is still sitting and resting more than normal. she is still turning around abruptly and sits during activities such as eating or drinking which is not normal for her. So I think she is still bothered by something. Anyway, I am going to try to call the vet back tomorrow to discuss where to go next (the results were given via voicemail and Dr has left for the day when I called back). I hope the antibiotics did the trick but I do worry about the lower potassium level. I know that can affect her kidneys and muscles. Anyone have any experience with low potassium levels in their pet? Thanks again for all the prayers and good vibes for ziggy. xoxo |
